It’s a blog post about someone opening a deck box and immediately sleeving the cards they found inside, which they state are no rarity cards. They go on to mention Mewtwo, Lass, and Charmeleon are cards they didn’t have before, as well as more irrelevant information like possibility of building a no rarity deck.
Ive got nothing to add to this thread but I was talking to my friend about no rarity yesterday and explaining how no one can really confirm how to get them.
He responded with “I reckon people know and they want to keep it a secret so they can snag as much no rarity product they find for a lower amount. Then when no rarity information is confirmed they sell off the product for a premium.” He also said “Has anyone emailed Pokemon? Surely they’d have an answer.”
I know nothing about these cards but when people purchase them off yahoojapan do you guys ask the seller if he remembers pulling this card and from what sort of product?
If I am not mistaken in the translation, that deck was already opened the OP responds to a question below asking the ratio of cards that were inside the deck as he suspects/does not know if there are missing items etc.
The above link is the closest thing to evidence I have seen at this point, the rest of the Japanese articles just talking about no rarities are just speculation. People can distort facts especially when time and memory is involved so that is why we need hard facts lol.
The change of zip codes from 5 to 7 digits was actually 2 Feb 1998 which is quite a ways away from Oct 1996 to be of any use?
7 digit starter deck (104-0061)
5 digit pack (104-01)
All the zip code change proves is that the product was manufactured possibly around the later part of 1997? (preempting the zip change) and into 1998 and onward. This implies that 7 digit zip code product will not contain cards with no rarity as it is believed that no rarity was the initial release as per promotional items.
I haven’t seen this current auction but I assume it is an opened deck much like the previous link. However unlikely, what would stop someone from putting no rarity cards inside/with an opened deck to increase its sale value?
The problem is the only people that can either confirm or continue to keep the shroud of mystery seem to be heavily invested in their packs being a chance at NR.
It’s pretty rare that I disagree with Cullers, because he is incredibly knowledgable in nearly every aspect of this community, but I can’t help but feel his own investment prevents him from being as impartial as he could be.
No disrespect to Cullers at all though. A lot of us are incredibly appreciate that he and others even have this info that enables the discussion. So, thank you mate!
It’s not disrespect to say someone is wrong @ozenigma. Second @cullers until someone(reputable) from this community opens up a deck on video and NR cards come out of it everything you think is definitive is obsolete. The link you provided comes from an unknown source, trusting it for fact is difficult–unsettling if you will.
I think it’s more about trying to see if we can learn anything new. If nothing new surfaces than at least there is some sort of confirmation leading to new theories or ideas to be tested.
We’ll just agree to disagree, and I’ll leave with this.
There’s tons of opening of Japanese base set product. Yet there’s zero video of no rarity being opened. This isn’t for a lack of trying, but because the cards are that rare. So here’s me telling everyone the info, I’m not hiding anything. I’m not being secretive I’m not being shaddy, it’s up to the individual to either believe it or no.
They came from somewhere, they didn’t fall from the sky. There’s a higher chance you’ll find them in starter decks, the code has to be what I posted before, it’s still extremely rare. Theres an even rarer chance chance you’ll find them in booster.
@ozenigma no offense bud, I don’t mind differin opinions as long as there’s a point behind it. I hate when people refuse to aknowledge fact and present nothing to support their opinions, but you’re not o e of those people. If it makes you feel better I have very little of these cards. I stopped collecting them when syndicate pushed a gem mint zard past $20k price point.
Fair enough @cullers! If anything I don’t think I am far off from your position. I just wish people would open more product on camera.
Oh and you are not even close to the individuals acting shady with these cards. You are a completely different pack, with entirely different serial numbers.
The best question you can ask today is where didn’t they come from? This is assuming they only came out of one product. Mine came from something I opened years ago. I didn’t open every type of product so if I ever end up caring about these I’ll spend time doing a process of elimination. In the meantime it’s fun watching the different thought processes.
Just to clarify, I’m in total agreement with @cullers on this. I believe they probably came from both decks and boosters. It’s just that I think that most of the mint cards we are now seeing are probably being pulled from sealed deck boxes. My guess is that the majority of short packs were opened long, long ago.
Two opened decks one with 76 cards and the other 75. Ended April 12th and April 13th on YJ!. Both have Mewtwo as the holo. Seller looks to mainly sell electronic items like laptops etc.
I’m just amazed at how gee’d up speculation and the unknown gets people.
It blows my mind how everyone is trying to make an inference…
Haha…
Just wait it out… Someone will break it, and be able to display whatever it is you guys are looking for. Some tell tale sign perhaps? Which probably doesn’t even exist in the first place.
I was sorting some pictures on my computer and I found this picture of the content of the 1996 Gift Pack:
The picture is bad so we can not really see the cards are no rarity or not, but at least the cards come from a 1st or 2nd edition deck (see the booklet).
Does anyone already opened a deck from the 1996 Gift Pack?
Assuming you are talking about the no rarity Japanese base set Booster I might be able to provide some info on this.
I have 2 Booster boxes of the Japanese base set and additional 22 loose packs.
One factor I noticed when I opened and obtained no rarity cards was each Japanese booster pack has a price tag of XXX yen on each pack.
I have packs that have 300 yen printed on them in yellow, packs with 291 printed on them, and packs without. So there are 3 variations.
I’ve gotten no rarities from the 291 but none from the 300 and without. So maybe that may be an indicator.
