Whatever it will be, the next collectible (not fad) will have to be based on a franchise that is widely successful independent of the collectible itself.

Ive rewatched the original anime which I loved as a kid and I honest to god hate it now. Nostalgia does not carry it whatsoever for me. It truly is hot garbage. That being said, rewatching the old movies, I dont think I’m blinded by nostalgia and the first pokemon movie is a legitimately decent movie in my opinion.

Maybe Bakugan and Beyblade. But their franchises are too small for a major boom. Not even sure if they are still alive. A nostalgia hype train could start from kids that grew up in the early 2000’s, and now entering the workforce.
Yugioh experienced some increase back in 2020 but its still largely a community for the TCG and not as much about collectability (partially thanks to reprints)
Rewatched it not so long ago. Honestly this is a great kids movie even in 2023. The only “problem” is outdated “the chosen one” gimmick. Otherwise even being 30+y/o i felt “wow COOL” when they were showing Lugia and birds fighting around or Team Rocket suddenly becoming good guys. The 2000 just filled with great little moments.
The very first movie and Unnoun-movie…umm…i don’t know.

Maybe Toys to Life (Skylanders, Disney Infinity, amiibo).
People who grew up with those games are now in the work force and might start to feel nostalgic.
Skylanders started 13 years ago, amiibo will have its 10th anniversary next year.

Reality: Fortnite or merch of some TikTok influencer
There are indeed Fortnite cards but i have no idea if those are collected by kids today. Might be worth looking into.
