Can somebody explain what this means in novice terms? I honestly have zero idea what this means.
People post affiliate links that give them a small percentage of a future sale from a buyer who clicked the link. Say someone posted an affiliate link with your charizard collection, I click on the link and then go buy a $100 item on ebay. The person who posted that link will get a small percentage.
Basically people were using the traffic from E4 and discord to earn money through dropping the affiliate links. The only affiliate links allowed at this point are for an E4 account. Any purchases support the site.
Scott’s post pretty much laid it all out. “Rover” containing URL’s were affiliate links that earned the poster money. The quality of posts was deteriorating (especially in the GAT and discord) because people were out for affiliate money as opposed to the forums original intent of sharing information and facilitating conversation.
You nor most people will be affected. People who were self promoting/spamming for their own financial gain are the only ones affected.
So if I posted a link to one of your auctions and somebody clicks on it and buys, then i’d get money?
If it was an affiliate link to anything on ebay, and then someone clicked it and bought something in the next 24 hours, you would get a small percentage.
Ahhh…got ya
Damn so there was sneaky buggers doing affiliate links in GAT lol
Affiliate linking your own listing would have been 200IQ lol
I always wondered why the links here had rover in them. Am I understanding correctly that normal links shared here get converted into affiliate links for the site?
Hypothetical: is it possible to make a subforum where topics and posts can only be seen by the user that posted them (an echo chamber)? I’d be down for posting things I plan to buy here and then using the forum generated affiliate link to send some money towards the site.
They need to be manually converted as of now I think - the one concern for this would be that linking ebay listings within text (i.e. like this kind of style) would have to be worked around because EPN users must either display the entire link or use an approved url shortener.
If there is an automatic converter, though, you probably wouldn’t need a subforum to do this, as you could probably just send a pm to yourself - assuming that private messages would also be affected.
- not all rover links are affiliate links. “Sharing” a listing from the app also produces a “rover” link but there’s no affiliate functionality. The giveaway for an affiliate link is the “campid=xxx” in the URL
- clicking an affiliate link generates a cookie that is stored on your device for 24hrs. Any and all payments made on ebay during that 24hrs on that device will qualify. You do not have to buy the exact card listed. The owner of the link gets about 50% of the sellers fee for anything purchased. If you win an item on ebay and want someone to get the sellers fee, click any of their affiliate links and complete the payment of the item.
Is there an affiliate link that the proceeds would go towards e4 I can use. If I’m already buying thousands of cards I wouldn’t mind helping the website out. Would this interfere with any browser add on like honey or ebates?
Sure here is a link:
Anyone who clicks that and buys something in 24 hours part of the seller fees support the site. It doesn’t add any additional cost to the buyer, it pulls entirely from the sellers fees.
Please, nobody buy that listing;)

Affiliate linking your own listing would have been 200IQ lol
I’ve had google adsense advertise my own eBay auctions to myself
