New back of card design

Has anyone seen this? I think this is only for digital but wonder if it will make its way to actual cards. Sorry if it’s been posted already.

likely wont manifest in official cards due to tournament legality complications

If it’s on digital they are obviously testing the waters. Like some of it.

Not a fan. Looks fake.

Finally, the pokeball shall open correctly. Sadly, many have already passed away before this watershed moment could come to pass. But I am glad I could witness it in my lifetime.

I honestly prefer it to the old design. I guess that’s a hot take. I think it’d be better if they removed the star sprites and changed the outer glow on the text. But mainly, the hue shift of the yellow text and blue is the biggest improvement for me.

It reminds me of Mickey fantasia hat lololol

I like it. :person_shrugging:

Nice to see the Poké Ball opening the correct direction, finally.

The English back is incredibly dated. I actually kind of like it. They should have just switched when they switched to silver borders. I’d imagine the workaround for tournament play would be to just require card sleeves until all the old backs are out of rotation.

I don’t hate it. I’m just not sure there is a need to fix something that isn’t broken.

It’s reasonable to prefer the original, but to be fair, it is very much broken. The pokeball is drawn incorrectly.

I guess what I’m saying is clearly that hasn’t been an issue (or big enough of an issue to deal with) at TPC for decades, and thus seemed to be working just fine. Like I said, I don’t hate it, but in the company’s eyes I’m not convinced it’s actually broken, otherwise it would have changed years ago.

Irrational take: Growing up in the 90’s I enjoy the old design better…no other reason than the nostalgia and familiarity.

Rational take: With the yellow boarders gone, I wouldnt be surprised if English backs get a refresh.

I like it but would look better with the regular dark blue border

The old man in me is like “blahh i dont like change blah blah”. Idk maybe if it catches on and the youngins like it, i guess i wouldnt be too opposed to a change. Its not for me personally, because im too attached.

It looks like a fake that I might find on wish.com.

I actually really like it. I think if they are going to do something like this though, they should definitely play around with a few designs. This is a good start though. As much as I love the old back, I would be okay with a new one.

You could say the same thing about yellow borders but lets be honest, many of us just dont like change even if its positive change.

I think opaque sleeves are pretty much already required (someone can correct me), as even minor scuffing or edge wear basically counts as a marked card. Don’t think a design change for the back would change anything for tournament play.
