[Need info] Sleeves in Beckett Cases - Avoid card movement

Thank you, that’s all I needed to know. It wasn’t your fault, it was just that you & zorloth gave different answers to my query.

All’s good now.

If that has happened, why hasn’t Beckett changed the sleeve? I don’t get why they can’t just leave the card in a penny sleeve?

If you’re worried about that bit of wiggle room in the cases, you might LOVE PCA’s cases, no wiggle room whatsoever!

CGC cases seem to be similarly snug. Honestly, though, all major grading companies are fine (protection-wise).

All of my Beckett cards are fine and haven’t gotten any damaged edges from the sleeve…

Are you refering to the areas on the raised ridges that connect the inner sleeve to the plastic?

None of my cards touch these areas. Left to right it has a sizable gap, top to bottom also has a gap between the ridges and the edge of the card. The plastic you see on the ridges appears to be outside the sleeve and not within the inner part of the sleeve.

The inner sleeves are poorly made and often have jagged inside edges, there are plenty of photos of magic cards with chipped edges and the card fibers literally visible stuck in the jagged edge of the sleeve. Hard to see in this pic but the damage was caused by the inside of the sleeve. I don’t have a high res version anymore and can’t be bothered searching for it, I’ve posted it on here before but the link is dead now.

My collection is about 90-95% Beckett and I already crossed some PSA cards to BGS because I hated to see the cards moving around whenever I picked them up. I collected exclusively Japanese, so I know how horrible the cards moving in the PSA cases are.

And personally had no issues with Beckett so far with the cards moving around or something.

Are Japanese cards smaller than English? It seems Japanese move mostly in psa. However I do have an English that wiggles. I think psa should make their cases more snug or have the card in a penny sleeve

I think it’s unlikely that PSA will be doing something along those lines any time soon, but feel free to go with any of the other grading companies available.

If all of us people with cards moving around gave feedback, it could help psa make a case fit for Pokémon. When I reported the issue, psa told me the cards are not meant to move. If more people bring it up to psa, it could make them consider reevaluate the case

Does Beckett charge you money to get your card back (and up the price) if it’s a rare card?

A lot of cards move inside the psa cases. I own a psa 10 grand party that can slide up and down. Will this damage the card? Of course not because I’m not shaking the dang case nor would anyone else. The very tiny bit of movement once in a blue moon can not result in damage unless you try to damage it.

Someone said they put a card in a paint mixer to test this, which while good, might not be an accurate test. An object going in a circle inside a centrifuge will simply be pinned to the wall due to the force exerted by the walls. The case may barely move during this process for that reason. A better experiment would be to shake a case vigorously for 10 minutes straight.

Overall, a PSA case is just fine because I don’t shake my cases anyway.

Just for reference! this is roughly the same type of mixer he used.

I can see the edge is damaged on that magic card. It is a shame the link is dead. It would be good to see a clearer picture of the area.
I just checked all of my Pokemon BGS slabs and all four edges of all the cards and don’t have any form of damage from the ridges like that magic card. All the back edges look the same as the day I sent them in. I have sent in old back Japanese, new back japanese and english cards.
I am not in anyway discrediting your evidence and it could very well be possible that it can happen or has happened.

Not everything man made is made up to standard. Like anything on an assembly line you are bound to find irregularities in the manufacturing and assembly process and sometimes things slip through QA.

Of course you don’t shake the case. But there’s no way to stop the card from sliding up and down in transit. So if shifting around can damage the card, there’s no real way to prevent this if the card is ever shipped anywhere.

But none of this matters because a card isn’t going to be damaged by moving around in a PSA case. The inside edges are totally flat and the card is only moving like a millimeter in either direction.

Ok but here’s the question - why do all of us freaks even grade cards if they seem better off in a sleeve and toploader? Whether it be psa or Beckett, there seems to be ways for them to get damaged.

I can’t even enjoy the Holo foil on my card because when I tilt it the card bangs around. I wish psa pennysleeved cards thenput them in the case

Nothing wrong with sleeve, toploader, team bag. I have many cards stored like this.

Here’s a forum discussing cards moving in psas case. This is definitely a concern for many people who has cards that move around. It’s so unfortunate… I wish my card didn’t move around

About 95% of my collection is in binders. And a lot of the graded cards I do have were bought graded. Though PSA cards are safe enough and I’ve never had a card get damaged inside a case from that tiny gap, I personally prefer being able to flip through binders when looking at my cards. No matter what you do there will ALWAYS be ways to get cards damaged. Hell making the cases more snug could lead to more cards being damaged during encapsulating. It’s a piece of cardboard, and graded cases aren’t exactly bulletproof/waterproof/mold proof. You just do what you always should do with things you care about: you take care of them well.

If you don’t like how PSA does things, simply don’t use them. They won’t change things just because you “can’t enjoy the holo foil on your card” because there’s a tiny gap. Again if you don’t like it use a different grading service. I personally dislike the look of inner sleeves on beckett cards, but don’t expect them to change anything just because of my opinion, I simply don’t use them.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Well I suppose if there’s wiggle room in the case they could just pennysleeve the cards in the case and it’ll protect them and make them not shake
