Personally I believe that the shinning Mewtwo is more under valued at the moment.
I think I personally prefer the gold star artwork, but I think that the shinning is more likely to go up in price more and soon.
Just my opinion.

Personally, I like the gold star mewtwo art more too, it just has more action in the card. I actually has the opportunity to buy the 1st edition shining for $6k but I passed because I thought that if I was gonna spend that much I might as well go all in for the gold star

Fellow Mewtwo collector here (along with other stuff so it’s been a while since I picked up an expensive mewtwo!)

I opted to go with the 1st edition shining mewtwo as I think it’s one of the most badass artworks and I love the dark feel to it.
You don’t see it come up in PSA10 too often so I jumped on it when I could.

Gold star in 10 is something I don’t yet have and also out of my reach for the near future unless I sell a lot. I think I’d actually opt to get this one in Japanese as I prefer the look to it but appreciate this isn’t as rare or expensive (also maybe a reason I’ll get it to save some £££). Currently is 44 more Japanese PSA10’s.

Mewtwo HR competition is one I bought early this year and absolutely love it. I went with the non-rainbow one as I just don’t have any appeal towards rainbow cArds but appreciate this would be a better investment due to lower amount of copies given out. But I just love the purple with mewtwo.
This card price is bouncing around a bit but the general trend looks upwards and I think it’ll be a good future collectible due to the exclusivity of the card and the artwork feels really powerful.

Mewtwo 20th Festa is one I need to pick up soon too actually! For now I just have true cheaper English one

Oh one I did pick up recently was Mewtwo 2020 championship Japanese promo. Not sure how many was printed but not too many raw on eBay.

What I’m really lacking and haven’t got involved with yet is Zukan cards which have some great mewtwo artwork.

Can’t catch them all aye!!!

Hey y’all I just wanted to make this post to document my journey on collecting every single Mewtwo card out there starting from 1st ed base until now. So far I have an empty binder and a lot of slots to fill but I’m ready to knock some spots out. I’ll be updating the thread weekly to document my progress, and if I enjoy it a lot, I’ll even start one for different Pokemon. Lastly, I’m deciding on which should be the prize gem of the whole collection. Right now I’m torn between PSA 10 Gold Star Mewtwo or 1st ed Shining Mewtwo. If y’all have any other suggestions as to what would be a good master piece would be, please let me know.

Edit 1: Here’s my first update 1 week into the collection… I’ve picked up 29 cards so far and I’ve made a spreadsheet to track what I need and how much I’ve spent. I’ve picked up a lot of singles from my LGS and Troll and Toad so I’m a little bit nervous that the cards will come in damaged because it’s from there. Overall though I feel pretty good about where the collection is heading. Still trying to find someone with that 2019 Battle Promo though. The hunt continues.

Notable Pickups: Evolutions Staff Promo, Mewtwo Lv X, Base Set Unlimited

That’s awesome! Good luck with your collection. What about Korean, though?! You’ve got the 2000 WOTC Korean Mewtwo Black Star Promo (only Korean WOTC promo with print run 300,000 but still fairly rare) and the Korean 363/SM-P of which there are only 36!

Before I had my Gyarados collection, I almost dedicated my collecting journey with Mewtwo. That is to say, I am so pumped to see this collection of yours grow. Mewtwo is one of my all time favorites. Wish you the best!

That artwork definitely is beautiful, unfortunately I haven’t gotten the chance to pick up a near mint copy of it though. Honestly I’m thinking I might just get the PSA 10 version eventually.

It’s a trophy card, so it’s not cheap. I saw one a while back on Yahoo Japan Auctions for around $12K USD…
