Movie Box Office, Releases, and Discussion

I watched Deadpool last night.

Knowing little about the little known Marvel character made certain references a little confusing but overall it was absolutely fantastic and the adult comedy was off the scale.

This definitely is not a movie to take your kids to, it was slightly Quintin Tarantino esque. I thoroughly enjoyed the anti-hero aspect and can not wait for the sequel.

I second this.

It was a really fun movie. I literally had fun watching it.

For those going to see Deadpool; it is a must that you watch all the way to the end of the credits.

You can thank me later.

Eh… I personally found the post-credits scene pretty boring to be honest…

I assume you didn’t like the movie it referenced (without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen)?

Hah, I didn’t realize it was a reference in itself till after I made this post. Can’t say I’ve seen the referenced movie so I probably can’t appreciate it. That being said, for those who haven’t seen the movie yet, keep your eyes peeled for references / easter eggs; they are all over the place.

Also somewhat relevant, found on reddit:

I am not a big comic fan, mostly because I don’t have the time to dedicate to another hobby, but I thoroughly enjoyed Deadpool. It was better than what I expected.

I think the great thing about Deadpool is that the jokes are pretty innocent. No one involved in the movie didn’t get fun poked at them and none of the plot is sacrificed for Deadpool’s jokes. The movie was just well made.

That said, if I had any criticisms:

SPOILER: Click to show

The beginning comes a bit slowly and they underplay that Deadpool does still feel pain. They also didn’t make him ugly enough IMO. The x-men weren’t sufficiently concerned with protecting human life. But these are the only things I wasn’t sold on. I still give the movie a VERY solid 9/10

Have you seen ā€˜Legend’ yet? It’s about the Kray twins. Hardy is phenomenal in it.

I also suggest the TV series ā€˜Peaky Blinders’.

Shout out to the blind grandma living with pool! Haha I have to agree with oz and specially Scott. Not a big comic book fan so I felt kinda out of place, but the action was too enjoyable(fucking awesome!).

Does that matter?
Do I need be a sci-fi space fan to enjoy Star Wars?
Do I need be a serial fan to enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Do I need be a distopian fan to enjoy Hunger Games?

I live in the area where About Schmidt was filmed, does not mean I liked it.

Hence why I still watched it. It definitely does not matter.

I feel like knowing the lore would enhance the experience. I have a friend who loves Marvel and gets so excited for the new movies, where I am mostly indifferent.

I’m going to echo a few of you and say that it absolutely does help knowing Marvel lore when watching Marvel movies. There are so many subtleties to be picked up on if you know history, which is what @missingno was eluding to.

That being said, Hollywood has to pitch movies to people who don’t know the story as good as die hard fans too, which makes Deadpool a solid 9/10 for me.

I adored Deadpool. I honestly thought that I was going to leave with my ears/eyes bleeding because I’m not one for swearing/gore, but the humor helped me overlook that. :stuck_out_tongue: I was easily giggling every few minutes or so.

Though, I was sad to see so much nudity (not that I didn’t expect it because it’s Hollywood) but I digress.
