I’ve come across multiple sources claiming different things about how the Mothim Lv.43 (DPt-P 039) promo was distributed.
Some sources say it was awarded to the top 3 players, while others claim it was a winner only prize.
Does anyone have reliable sources, official documentation, or firsthand knowledge confirming exactly how this card was awarded?
Considering how difficult these cards are to find and how few copies have been graded, I’m leaning towards it being a winner only prize, but I’d love to hear other opinions and hopefully establish the correct distribution history.
It was awarded to the top 3 of the Advent of Arceus Release Commemoration Tournaments.
For Gym Challenge promos like this, titles such as “Winners Prize” or “Winner” were often given to the top 3 finishers.
Here’s a report from someone who placed 2nd in one of the tournaments and obtained the card, as well as winning another copy at a different venue on the same day:
I love promos like these! I actually picked up a PSA 9 recently myself
Yesss! This is the blog post for my reference as well. I believe the Winner prize was the Pichu card, 038/DPt-P. Second and third place would get the Mothim 039/DPt-P promo. All participants would get the ‘Door to Beginnings’ 037/DPt-P promo.
Although, the blog post never clarifies what card the winner got, since the writer in both cases ended up getting second place. So maybe the winner of the tournament got the Pichu and the Mothim?
My understanding was that Pichu was awarded to players who ranked highly in the tournament but not in the top 3. From the blog post it sounds like he won the first tournament, then came 2nd at another venue. Both times he received the Mothim, Jirachi coin, and some Arceus sleeves.
There were also some other blog posts around the time but I don’t thin they have been archived.
