I was about to give an outlier pick of Burning Shadows. I think the much larger supply of SWSH/SV will be a bigger factor the further away from release we get.
But then I checked and saw that burning shadows is already outsold by evolving skies and a few other SWSH sets are very close too. Nevermind my vote is the boring choice of evolving skies
edit: just watched smprattes MMR. I’m back to thinking im a genius
Evolving Skies and Crown Zenith are both awesome sets. Very collectable with some of the best artworks in modern. ES continues to grow and Crown Zenith is still very new so give it some time. In 10 - 15 years both sets will be still very collectable and hold up well.
It will probably be a set I don’t have much of, because that’s my luck. So it won’t be evolving skies, crown zenith, or 151. My money is on cosmic eclipse. That set has it all - the hits, relative rarity, alt arts, tag teams, trainer gallery
True. I guess the question is; what wins out in the long(er) run, hype, or scarcity. If the hype stays strong it will be sets like Evolving Skies and Crown Zenith. I am leaning towards scarcity as well, and therefore Tag Team (or even a set like Celestial Storm).
It´s also interesting to see that we seem to have a definitive Sword & Shield top 3; Evolving Skies, Fusion Strike, Lost Origin. Wasn´t expecting Fusion Strike so high.
Well crown zenith seems to be winning the #2 spot.
But LO and FS represent my point about ex deoxys where a single (or couple) great chase cards can make a bad set a grail set to the general populous. I made the mistake of not buying much LO with all the reprints and me personally liking the alts in FS better. Won’t be doing that again with crown as we go through this last call wave
For hype its Evolving Skies, that is a given. And the hype is real. Scarcity doesn’t always mean the better investment so keep that in mind. The popularity of evolving skies is so massive and in demand that even if moonbreon is double / triple the pop report as other sets top cards, doesn’t mean that those sets chase cards would stand a chance against the moonbreon and other cards in ES. The effect that ES has had on the market and in the community is unique. It has a ways to go growth wise. Id say that CZ is a top 3 SWSH set. Give it time to age a little. Its in many peoples top 3 already. I enjoy Team Up a lot too. Amazing set and it aged like fine wine.
Yeah, that part didn´t age too well. I guess you´re right. Crown Zenith may well be going up fast soon.
Wasn´t Deoxys the least printed set from that era as well? But indeed, a good chase card goes a long way. That´s why I don´t understand people bashing Obsidian Flames. Yes, it´s a mediocre set, but that SIR Charizard puts it ahead of SV 1, 4, 5, 7 and Shrouded Fable.
If this thread was asking about the highest % increase instead of highest price, Shiny Treasure would definitely be a good contender due its incredibly low (£25) price point when its availability peaked. It’s not the best set, but it’s still A-tier underrated with some desirable chase cards.
Agreed, the hype surrounding Evolving Skies is something else. However, I am not comparing Evolving Skies with sets that have 1/3 of it´s population. I´m comparing it to sets that have 1/20 of it´s population.
Let us also not forget that right now sets like Celestial Storm have the same price point as Evolving Skies. Does that say a lot? Probably not, but it is notable.
Haha, I can imagine. Nobody talked about Pokémon 2004 - 2007 (myself included). What is also interesting is that Black & White sets seem to have lower POP´s than Base/Neo sets. It seems like the print numbers really remained quite low from 2003 all the way to 2014.
You stated that you were talking about sealed product specifically. I didnt think the population reports mattered but brought it up to make a specific example of how scarcity doesnt always mean the better investment. If you think CS is going to outperform ES then you should get some. I would go with ES over CS just based on the hype and momentum it has.
I don’t think anyone is claiming CZ is going to outperform ES. It’s just that CZ is 2nd best to many and is still easily available at MSRP that we are discussing it
