moistcr1tikal / penguinz0 2x Box Opening 27th Nov

I was on board for that Aquapolis box opening until I saw Pokimane is the one opening it…yeah I know she at least has some genuine interest in Pokemon but that’s gonna be a hard pass from me. I will watch Charlie’s opening though, and maybe xQc and Mizkif.

For me personally, I’m just worried about the existence of sealed boxes. This might sound dumb, but I sort of view these 20+ year old booster boxes as historical artifacts in a way, so it’s a shame to see what they are get deleted from reality in this manner. I just have to hope enough will be around if/when I get the means to acquire them one day. As far as their being passionate or not, that doesn’t get to me as much as the fact they continue to open more and more of them. It doesn’t seem to be a one and done thing. And it’s always opening, not buying and sitting on sealed product to turn a profit that way.

They were made with the intention of being opened, you can’t be mad that others with the means to acquire and open them are doing so man. Some people get enjoyment from opening them and dont care about sitting on a box for X years. What is more likely: a video of people opening booster boxes or a video of people putting a booster box into a safety deposit box?

Oh I definitely get all of that, just giving my personal perspective on the matter. Like think about some of the things we value as historical artifacts. I’m pretty sure there’s a cuneiform tablet out there that came from a simple tax collector in some village thousands of years ago. We’ve imbued tons of meaning onto it beyond the intentions of the guy who made the tablet. Anything can become special beyond itself after enough time has passed. It’s not that I’m mad, it’s more I just hope they can continue to exist. You could even argue they were made with the intention of being opened in the year 2000. So what do we do with that? Something interesting to contemplate, imo.

It’s also irritating to me that people who have little to no knowledge about Pokemon cards are opening these boxes. It’s not even about passion or anything; these people may be super passionate, diehard Pokemon fans. But the fact is that most, if not all, of these streamers know next to nothing about what they’re opening. And this is unfortunate because it leads to misinformation and to more uninformed people in the market.

For me, it’s not at all about jealousy. I would love to watch extraordinarily wealthy people open increasingly unaffordable vintage booster boxes. The only annoying thing to me is that it leads to uninformed buyers in the market – and more people will get burned like those who bought Base Unlimited last month.

More ebay returns on Japanese cards because they don’t feel/look the same as English
