If you knew that then why only offer $15,000, on E4 of all places? Such an offer doesn’t really reveal anything other than that you are trying to take advantage of someone, but this isn’t IG.
My god those prices hurt my heart! Lol! Blastoise/venusaur 1st ed PSA 10 for $2200 ouch! But hey Armin is taking the heat well so I give him an A+ for that! Got some balls for sure to offer those prices on e4 haha
Obviously the original poster is aware of the market of the cards. Why does everyone need to take a jab at him? He’s pretty much willing to pay in total what for someone people is a down payment on a house. He’s seeking out that person at an inflection point in life who needs money or shift priorities. Obviously he doesn’t actually expect someone to just be a nice guy and cut 10% off.
Its called casting a wide net. You never know what you’ll catch.
Spare him your explanation of the current market. Everyone on this site knows the value of 1st ed base.
Zubat, basically anyone with those cards can get higher prices instantly on eBay even factoring in fees and shipping, so even for someone desperate for money, why leave all that cash on the table? We do charitable events on here, but this isn’t one of those. Does that make sense? In some ways, this is insulting to the platform, because e4 is more of a serious Pokémon blogsphere. If you don’t take your collection seriously, I don’t think you’d be casually here. There’s a level of seriousness that is unspoken here, and people take pride in that. When you slap a lowball price on our most prized cards in the hobby, I think it does become personal. If I were a business and these were just objects of monetary returns, sure. But here, no.
If Armin gets the right to insult our collectible, then we have every right to lay it to him. Capito?
His post states market price minus 10-15%. When people asked for clarification, it’s obvious his market value is still grossly under. 15k for charizard? So market would be less than 18k? Don’t think so. He also stated himself this card is worth at least 25k to him. Blastoise for 2.2k, meaning market is under 2.6k? I don’t think so. So parse through his whole message and you might see why armin elicited the responses he did.
What bothered me about this post was that at first, when this was initially posted, I noticed that there was no prices listed in the buy thread.I was going to kindly remind Armin that he should list the prices, but then he did mention that he was buying them at 10-15% off market prices and it’s true that those cards are pretty well known in regards to their value so technically speaking, the prices are there. Then, I saw what was actually being offered for those cards.
So I am a bit annoyed by the fact that everyone’s time was wasted in the sense that a few months back the price rule was enacted precisely so these threads don’t crop up because so many people made buy threads with no prices, and when asked, the prices are not even close to what the market was offering at the time, and some collectors felt like they wasted their time participating in the thread.
I think if Armin posted the prices in the first place, all this drama would not have ensued and maybe someone would mention that prices are low, but I agree 100% that Armin has the right to put this type of offer on the table in case someone wants to sell their cards in a pinch. However, I think it is justified that after saying he’s offering market prices and then buying for 40% off market (pretty much can flip the cards value at this point), that people have the right to complain about this.
In summary: Please just list your prices so we know what you’re looking for.
And on top of that, after messaging him, he’s looking for near perfect examples of PSA 10 copies lol which should be geting a premium on top of the normal going rate
I’m going to defend someone simply asking for a discount on a bulk purchase. If bulk discounts are usually not offered on higher end items, it suffices to politely inform him that it is not so or simply ignore it.
Bulk rates are not a thing for the most popular, valuable and liquid set cards in the hobby. It’s like going to a Bugatti dealer and saying, “if I buy 2 can I get both for half price”.
I can’t imagine joining high end mtg, asking to buy all the power cards with the highest grades for half price, and being met with open arms. The natural reaction will be negative as the situation is ridiculous.
Also most the guys know Armin and are just chirping him because he knows what he is doing. Either way, the offers are the definition of lowball, and insulting to anyone who bought them at current market value.
Well if people know him and are just throwing shit because its fun I understand that.
BUT------If a someone new to the forum who wants to buy high end cards is still learning his way around and so makes a post with low offers, he shouldn’t be greeted with a negative reaction. Part of entering in this hobby is learning how high end products/ private sales are completed. People should be given patience to learn this.
However, times when these threads spiral out of control is almost always because the buyer is super vague with the description/price and when some interested sellers go into the thread and ask, they receive a lowball offer, usually with high demand cards too: www.elitefourum.com/t/looking-for-a-psa-10-1st-ed-base-set-card/18352/1
Like come on dude, don’t say "I think we all know what there cards are worth. I’m looking to pay 10-15 percent minus market value for each cards real worth. "
And then ask for a price not even close to that statement.
Absolutely! Usually someone new is more cautious, and members would help as they typically do. I think why people responded the way they did is because Armin is a regular, and knew what he was doing. But this is a public forum and people can post whatever they want (within the rules), including blunt responses.
If what @swolepoke said is true, that’s really bizzaro. If you’re getting a 10%+ market discount on a psa 10 1st ed shadowless, you’re kinda delusional for being picky with how “strong” or “weak” of a psa10 you’re getting. I think I’d just be super happy with the grade/price if someone actually bit on the price offers.
