Which because the seller will post there is no confirmed way to guarantee it is or isn’t, my thought process is to go about trying to find a box with unbroken tabs. If you can find one with that, then you can take the chance of breaking and seeing if it is or isn’t or holding onto that box as its a legitimate shot to be shadowless. There is also some protection because you would get a confirmation from the seller that the tabs would be either broken or not broken, and therefore protected if it shows up broken.
However I am not saying buy a unbroken tab box, break the seals, check the status of the box, and then report it as arrived broken, very unethical there. This is still all speculative, I doubt this would ever be an actual circumstance.
Its a very sticky situation, but I believe yes. With something of that value and how there are confirmed items with broken or unbroken seals, you could in fact open a item not described as case.
However, you would need to have substantial proof:
confirmation from the seller that is in fact not broken before you purchased the item
pictures before hand of him packing the item showing not broken
and for sure a video of you opening his package, and pulling it out on video showing that is in fact either still intact or not.
I have met collectors that want sealed product with these tabs intact because it plays a big part in it ever being searched or not. However, an Ebay customer service rep or case decider may not know what Pokemon even is, so something like this would need serious proof to explain what the situation is.
The tabs don’t really break in my experience. It’s either they show you pics of the packs through the flap or not. They don’t have to break any tabs to see the packs. You just press down. You could make it look like it was never searched by holding it upside down and letting the weight of the packs push the flap back through.
I wouldn’t take the risk and trust me, I’ve taken many.
Plus, at some point there was most likely something sitting on top of the box during its storage. Whether that be other boxes or just stuff in a closet.
To be honest I would disagree, you need to break the tabs to be able to see the packs. They are very tightly connected and to be able to see a pack without breaking a tab would be very very difficult without disrupting the integrity of the box. Once again I doubt it would be possible to even find one with tabs intact.
This thread is all about the signs and possibilities of finding a shadow less box, and OP having the opportunity to hopefully achieve it. Anyone has a chance to find any piece of Pokemon history so when people have their sight on something we as forum members trying and help any best way we can. Id stay away from saying don’t take the risk or try it, if OP has all his bases covered in checking out a box, there shouldn’t be anything holding them back from possibly picking it up.
Here’s a short summary of the box I purchased last year that had shadowless cards inside. I won it on auction offf a seller on eBay who had told me the box came from a case that had been opened and had Shadowless cards inside, and it was his last box.
Upon arrival I decided to check the packs without opening. The tabs were already broken (many are, I’ve only seen one box with the tabs intact), to be able to see the actual packs and check them correctly I had to push down pretty hard, even to the point of stretching the wrapping a bit.
The only other indicator that the box was Shadowless was the box having no country codes.
As for you guys talking about the tabs, I honestly wouldn’t look too much into that. Just from being in storage over the years, being stacked, being sold and moved around and handled, Many upon many will have the tabs broken. Like I said I’ve only ever seen one box with the tabs still intact
Correct, great points. To my main point with these unbroken tabs, like you said, you were able to check the status of the box without opening it. You were able to purchase off someone with a bit of knowledge that it was very highly likely to be shadowless, which, I cannot imagine would happen much, but when a seller has multiple listed on ebay, tabs broken, with a title that echos there is a “possibility to be shadowless”, there seems to be a slight hint that they had found it to be unlimited and therefore trying to make a premium on a variant unlimited box. All I am saying is for a box, to be 100% uncertain, and have a random possibility to be actually shadowless, a unbroken tab box would be key. If you can find one like I have described, there is a couple steps you can take to insure your purchase. Very wild circumstances, but just some food for thought.
Its going to be very hard to get someone to peek down in the box for you.
ive messaged 800,000 sellers on ebay. Noone will do it.
which means every person that doesnt do it, knows that they arnt shadowless
your better off saving for the 1st ed box. There easier to find, and people have them and it will be much more piece of mind then spending like over 2k on a unlimited box
problem is saving like 12-15k
xD
and now that 1st ed zard is going for 600 billion dollan, im afraid 12-15k might not be the reality of those boxes anymore.
So just to be clear, hypothetically speaking, if I got a green-wing box, peeked thru the tabs, and saw that a pack did not have the “Trading Card Game” Logo on the top, then it’s safe to say it’s shadowless? Or no?
