It’s an estimate shared by the most plugged in collectors. Of which I no longer am but it’s been the running estimate. I’ve been walked through the logic before and it makes sense to me. I re-confirmed it’s still the shared view before making my post. So yeah I think it’s a fair assumption
So the light packs need to pray for some starters in PSA10 condition shot to maybe break even. Heavy packs would be money losses for PSA9s, besides the big 3. This will be exciting to watch.
Damnnnn Gary at it again. I’m excited to see the box break and I wish I could even afford a pack in there. But this is amazing that it’s going to Charity and he gets to have the excitement of opening a fresh box. I used to hate Logan Paul for the dumb shit he would do but that was a couple years ago, he seems at least a bit more mature than before.
So he bought the box for $200k, is going to sell the packs inside and donate the funds to Leonhart’s charity? If so, that’s great.
It also sounds like a great way to do a tax write-off, by gaining more from his sales of the packs, especially with the uncertainty of tax laws heading into 2021.
I had not seen a video of this person before this, but from the video his motives seem sincere and his affection for Pokemon genuine. This makes me optimistic for the box opening he says is happening next month.
Honeymoon phase. Let’s see how he feels about the hobby when it’s in a low again or if he gets sick of it after a few years and moves on to something else. I think collecting from a what you love point is way more important than just jumping right to the top of the mountain with a 1st ed box. Can’t imagine how after that anything would keep his interest in the hobby peeked. Hope I’m wrong, but i still think this is just a flavor of the month thing for a majority of these guys right now.
Going to have to disagree on this. I think he is genuinely interested and the man has a LOT of money. If you grew up with base set and had unlimited funds buying a 1st Ed Box might be the peak of your nostalgia boner and make total sense to be one of the first things you want to go for.
Yeah, what is he supposed to start with – collecting a binder set of 1st Edition Jungle? lol
For someone with millions of dollars in disposable funds, buying and opening 1st Edition Base box is a pretty great way to start off, IMO. I can think of far worse ways to spend that money in this hobby. But I do see pokepackcollector’s point – it’s going to be tough to collect anything else after this. Imagine collecting 1st Edition Jungle/Fossil after collecting 1st Edition Base – it would feel way too easy and lame. One thing he could do is work his way up through the sets only completing the sets through opening booster boxes. Now that would be a bit more of a challenge, and definitely more fun (it’s what I’d do if I had effectively infinite funds like he does).
If you watched any of the video you’ll see him say multiple times he’s not been this excited about something in a long time, played the games through is whole childhood, and you can just see the genuine excitement he has. That nostalgia doesn’t just disappear as we all know. The only thing that has caused me to have a lull in interest in the hobby over the last few years has been lack of expendable income at certain times. This guy has no lack of expendable income. I can easily see him going to go all out from base to EX and more over a long period of time.
Wow; I just realized that he was only born in 1995. So he’s more in the EX Series generation than the WotC generation. I hope he just sticks with early WotC lol. The prices are high enough on the e-Series and EX Series as it is…
my first psa purchase was a base set unlimited psa 9 charizard. i don’t think i even knew about 1st edition or shadowless when i came back to the hobby in 2016…
