Life TCG

Hello All,

I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions to share on one of the many TCG/CCGs being put out right now, Life TCG. It had a successful kickstarter campaign last year to get things rolling.

I don’t know a lot, but the general concept is that there are cards printed with animals on them, where real life population of the animal correlates with how many 1st edition holos are printed. They have also created a 1/1 Earth card as a chase.

I don’t have any information on the game aspect itself, but my understanding is that it’s very basic.

My opinion is that this likely isn’t going anywhere without much of game to play, and photos used for the animals are pretty mundane, but may still buy a few cards. I enjoy animals and think it’s a fun idea.

Anyone else have any thoughts, or maybe you participated in the Kickstarter?

This is the most mundane looking tcg I have ever seen. This is like an nft version of a tcg.

So basically Pokémon TCG minus all the creativity and imagination

If the Covid era could be summed up it would be this TCG

Hmmm. So the cards don’t have any gameplay utility, have some kind of thrown-together MS Paint feel, and are there purely as st0nking vehicles.

Actually I’ve decided that I’ll buy a foil dachshund card. That’s it.

I can’t imagine this having much success unfortunately: the art and the concept seem really average. The layout is a bit uninspired and ‘boring’ too.

If this product is aimed to adults, It would be nice if they rework the art to something more painterly or classy, like those vintage naturalist illustrations, or those cigarette bird cards.

If it’s for children and schools, I would choose a more appealing colorful “pokemon” style, so at least some kids would try to play while learning about the animals (otherwise they’re going to instant tossing them in the trash lol)

I feel like this could be a compliment to Tier Zoo.

I actually preordered the 1st ed gold box. I don’t think this has any stonking potential nor do I care for that but of course if I get some rare holo I’ll grade and likely sell. I have an infant and I think it’ll be cool to show him the animals and facts when he’s a little older as an alternative to books.

This feels super meta. At first I thought the title of this thread was a of joke (“has anyone played this game called Life? Haha it’s really hard” or something)

It looks extremely low-effort. For example, that gorilla fact/dex entry is pointless. Don’t we share a similar percentage of DNA with lettuce?

The layout also is the same as Top Trumps cards, so I have to wonder if this is a game with actual strategy

Earth population (est): 1

So you’re saying there could be an Earth2? :scream_cat:

I can’t believe that this isn’t satire.

hate to be overly negative on something new but there’s a lot lacking. sure they’re donating 20% to conservation charities (haven’t personally looked at how efficient said charities are), but i’d honestly expect more sustainability efforts from a product in this vein. website needs an editor, cards are visually unexciting, gameplay is just flat bad. really feels like a half-baked product intended to capitalize off the recent tcg boom, but with an ecological gimmick slapped on top to pander to a new audience.

I thought it was another pump N dump but looking at the website the creator is definitely very passionate. You wouldn’t really know about those kind of animals unless you researched wildlife for years.

I like the concept tbh, if it’s successful it would bring awareness to really obscure & almost extinct animals. If they could set something up & maybe have some profits going towards official wildlife preservation campaigns or sanctuaries. This could be monumental with the right backing.

60% of all mammals being livestock and only 4% of all mammals being wild, on earth, are very depressing statistics lol.

They need to hire an editor who knows what they are doing. The way the facts are written is terrible.
