At least two people bid over 600 for this card. I have this card. I thoroughly enjoy this card. But wow this price shot up like I would have never believed! This price is bananas in the best of ways! What do you all think?

This doesn’t seem right. The most recent sales of this card have been 1/3 of this price. It’s not a black label candidate due to centering and backside corner marks too so I don’t know what happened here

Population report for PSA 10 1st edition Gym Challenge:
Misty’s Golduck - 45
Giovanni’s Persian - 48
Koga’s Beedrill - 59
Erika’s Venusaur - 75
Each of the other 16 holos in the set - 111 or more (some a lot more)
So those are by far the hardest cards in the set to obtain.
When cards have enough scarcity, sudden spikes in price can happen (Obviously, this doesn’t mean that the next sale will also be for $600+… time will tell)

I bought a Koga Beedrill at $199 which was a silly price earlier this year, but it was the only one on the market and needed to complete the set.
When the gym sets hype dies down the price will drop as well.

There’s several people who are selling high to a proxy and creating threads like this only helps cause a frenzy. Best to ignore the one-offs.

Its a nostalgic card as the unlimited version is included in the Koga’s theme deck. Maybe someone just want to scratch that nostalgic itch?

That’s why I bought alot of low pop gym set 10s over a year ago, people were sleeping on them because they are actually low pop compared to the rest of the set and were hardly valued any higher than the higher population cards

Looking at the price of a PSA 10 1st edition Koga’s Beedrill, this can be seen as an inevitable correction of a price that was too low compared to the other low pop cards in the set.
According to pokemonprice.com, previously Koga’s Beedrill has been selling for under $200 through 2018 before selling for $266 in August.
Meanwhile, Giovanni’s Persian had been selling consistently for over $400, but there is no public sales data for that card since July 2018.
And Misty’s Golduck is an interesting case. Previously, the card had been selling for around $300. But there was no public sale of the card in over a year until the card sold for $775 in August ( cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=223460083351 )
Considering Koga’s Beedrill, Giovanni’s Persian, and Misty’s Golduck are almost entirely valued for the fact that they are needed to complete the set, the price of Koga’s Beedrill clearly didn’t make much sense compared to the other rare cards in this set.
This just shows the inherent value of set cards that have a much lower population report than other cards in the set. They are far harder for people who want to have complete sets to find so people are willing to pay a lot more for them when these cards become available. This is why Chansey sells for 3 or 4 times as much compared to some other PSA 10 1st edition base set holos.
So if I had to guess what will happen, Koga’s Beedrill will settle at a significantly lower price than what it sold for in this instance but also a much higher price than what it had been selling for previously.

Just for some data i bought a persian for $575 off ebay early this year, not sure why it didnt come up on pokemon prices.
Psa 9 holos in 1st ed are generally between $25-$35. Unless it’s a zard or a really hard to grade card
I feel this. I’d pay at least $500 for a Misty’s Golduck right now
