A couple of friends and I have recently started playing the TCG! Im currently rocking a world champion buzzrock deck (so I could get the feel of how to play) but now im ready to build my own. Any suggestions on where to start? Doesnt need to be crazy competitive as I dont plan on going to tournaments anytime soon just fun to play kinda thing.
If keeping it low key, the world championship decks are great. The pace of the game is much faster in the competitive decks.
I also really like pre release tournaments. Everyone gets a sealed box and you have to make your deck out of the cards in your box. Tons of fun !
If you want a budget/fun and competitive I would recommend Baby Blacephalon. you can get it for 50-60$ and it will provide you hours of fun.
You have several builds, I use:
4 Blacephalon UNB 32
1 Blacephalon-GX LOT 52

Also it will give you a lot of support for the next 2 year with Fire decks, which are gonna be big
I’m in the same boat as the OP (havent played since Neo Era), any other decks you’d recommend? Any website’s with deck info you’d recommend too?
Quagsire Naga also is a good budget deck or malamar control.
I recommend limitlesstcg.com it has the decklists of the tops of all major tournaments worldwide and also japanese so you can see what the meta is going to be and plan accordingly.
I second limitlesstcg.com and add pokebeach.com and pokegoldfish.com. Both sites have some good articles on how to build a deck. You can purchase a week of premium subscriptions on pokebeach and that should give you enough content to last for a while.
I also agree with the pre-release tournaments those are fun. I take my kids to tournaments but with three kids at the age that they can play well enough we don’t really have to go anywhere.
I usually get my cards from tcgplayer.com.
Even though we don’t go to many tournaments we still keep up with the standard rotation. Gives me an excuse to change the decks up and buy a booster box every once and a while.
Thanks for the suggestions guys! We will have to see what I come up with!

I just started agin myself and just put this deck together. Its pretty cheap (around $40) and is fairly good given a few tweaks (listed below) but gyarados’s distilled blast can dish out 120 to 180 (240 max) consistently. This won’t win competitive tournaments but you should leave your local pokemon league with a winning record on the day (maybe even steal a game against a recharizard deck)
Pokemon - 14
* 1 Ditto {*} LOT 154
* 1 Alolan Ninetales-GX LOT 132
* 4 Alolan Vulpix GRI 21

**Tweaks**
-Drop 2 Vulpix or drop a water and run another Ninetales GX
-Draw support
-Adding 4× Brock’s Grit is a must add because in the games w/ several Gyarados set up you’ll burn through your deck.
-Adding 4Ă— Weakness policy to offer some coverage against this decks blatant electric weakness
