Just an Idea: Cards for Charity?

Greetings Elite Fourum Friends,

With the holiday season quickly approaching, I thought this might be a cool concept worth exploring: an Elite Fourum Community Fundraiser to help a charity of some kind around Christmas time. We collectors could each select an item or two from our collections (whatever one is willing to spare/contribute) to auction off and donate the proceeds to a communal pool which would then be donated to a charity selected by the users of this forum. Ideally, we could have one of our more established and reputable community members collect the donated cards/merchandise and list/manage the auctions from one account (maybe someone could even create an EFour Cards for Charity logo to put onto each listing). Perhaps Scott could even make a few YouTube videos publicizing and tracking the progress of the event for the larger Pokemon audience outside this forum. Obviously, this would be a lot of work, but I think that it could be a really fun way to promote the community side of our hobby while helping those in need. I know I’d be willing to donate some cards . . . What do you guys think?

Count me in for sure. There are numerous children’s hospitals that would love to get cards for their patients. Just bypass eBay and donate the cards direct:)

To be fair, I was assuming people would donate moderately desireable singles or graded cards (stuff most of us typically sell on our eBay stores already) rather than bulk commons/uncommons. For example, I have some graded shadowless holos, some sealed WOTC packs, or some PSA 9’s from various sets that I could part with. Mostly items valued between $30-100. Again, it’s just an idea, but I definitely appreciate the feedback!

If we had 20-30 people donate one or two items that sold for $30-50 each, that would be a pretty substantial donation on the part of this fourum. Frankly, I think we could easily surpass that mark.

*Children’s hospitals would be a great idea!

Well… Were you trying to turn a profit or listed them at $0.99 auction?

People will pay market value for most cards… charity or not. What they won’t do is overpay on a bunch of bulk? you tried to sell… Again, I’m sure you had good intentions but 400+ cards, that,s like $20? Unless there were some decent cards in there. At that point you’re better off writing a $20 cheque and sending it to the charity.

Fair enough.

I’m just saying there aren’t buyers lined up to buy unwanted bulk cards in small quantities.

Or perhaps you can follow Gary’s great idea and drop off the 400 cards at your local Children’s hospital? That would be awesome.

EDIT: I’m also in. Just hope shipping doesn’t cost an arm and a leg with Canada Post. lol

That’s a great idea, I have a few cards that I can donate I’m in

You’re kidding right?
No child hospitals?

Besides even if there weren’t, there’s a ton of other dutch charities that benefit children with health issues wether physical or mental.

It’s cool to see you did something though!
What hospitals did you donate 20,000 cards to?
