I was about to list this Shroomish reverse holo from ex ruby saphire for sale, but i noticed a weird kind of bracket on top of a what i assumed was a printline. Has anyone seen something similar before? I know its not an expensive card, but im curious ![]()
Looks like a print line to me in this picture, but I could be mistaken.
Greetz,
Quuador
Yes i agree on that, but theres a weird bracket on top of it. Its quite hard to capture on a photo
it looks like the holo backing hasn’t been printed on and the sheet was cut with that still there if so I would say its a miscut error
The holo isn’t printed on, the sheet already is holo before it goes through the printer
This one shows that it’s holo both below and above the line but with different reflection. Which suggests its a seam in the holo material. But the size of the seam is much larger than I’d expected for Ex Sandstorm. Plus the bracket thing is unusual. So I would guess it’s a minor production error at the factory that produces the sheet rather than an error at the ink printer
Yeah this is what i meant, you have just put it better cheers
I believe this is what happens when a card is cut on the “weld lines” of the reverse holo sheet.
yeah just the holo pattern. The centering looks fine, as much as the holo pattern creates a funky illusion.
I use to have a reverse holo Treecko from a similar set (EX Ruby and Sapphire) with a similar oddity at the print line/weld line area. I think it’s just an artifact of the holo sheet.
Found another one on ebay. Notice how the line doesnt go fully to the left side. Interesting print error
I saw that one too
- it actually goes all the way across, this is from the PSA scan:
My best guess is that it’s a join error where the irregular black join line is caused from some “wrinkling” of the foil.
its normal. Nothing wrong with it. If it is unappealing, which it is for some, go for another copy. But this isn’t damage, this isn’t an error or mistake. So buy with confidence if otherwise the price for condition does it for you.
Yeah, totally, I didn’t mean it in a bad way (think it’s neat). Would be fun to understand more how exactly the artifact happens
Yeah the “squiggly black line”. It’s just more apparent than a normal foil join line and the “squiggly” artifacts are interesting. There was some discussion previously in this thread with other examples from this era, and I agree it’s prob. not a printing error but probably a weird join from the foil manufacturer.
yeah I’ll explain it finally I guess. I know someone came up with some kind of theory. So I just researched holography last year for like…a disgusting amount of time…I wanted to make a thing of it, but eh, here is your info drop.
Its called a shim line. All you really need to know, is that its part of making a repeating holo pattern. It always shows up. Until relatively recently there was no known technique to not have it. All I know is that the technique to NOT have shim lines is not openly shared from what I found online at least. So modern cards won’t have a shim line.
But remember too that in the late ex era, you can also have the goldstars and the holo border cards(like in crystal guardians here) on the same sheet. So you can have some of the holo border on a non-holo border card and visa versa.
So we can stop calling it a weld line or print line. Its a shim line.
I’ll explain holography and the process later somewhere else one of these days. I’m tired and hungy now anyhow so enjoy the new info.
