JP Set Pack Price Will Increase (May 2026-)

Thank you very much for your continued patronage of our products.

Due to the impact of soaring raw material costs, some new products of Pokémon card games that will be released after May 2026 will be revised to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price as follows.

We look forward to your continued patronage of our products.

Target products

Target products Products released before April 2026 Products released after May 2026
Expansion pack (5 pieces included) 180 yen (tax included) 200 yen (tax included)

For some expansion packs, the price may vary.

For products with a price lineup other than the above, we will set the price for each product.

There will be no change in products released before April 2026.

  • This will mean that from May 2026 onwards, the retail price of a 30-pack (5-card pack) booster box will increase from 5,400円 to 6,000円

  • Possibility of High Class Pack sets and other specialty products receiving a price bump later this year
  • “Products released before April 2026” includes Ninja Spinner, likely the last set with current retail box price
  • “Products released after May 2026” might mean there won’t be a JP set releasing in May, Abyss Eye/Storm Emeralda/Celebration Collection will likely have the price increase
    • If Celebration Collection is a special set, TPC may apply a different price bump

  • The last JP pack price increase was in January 2023 from 165円 to 180円 for 5-card packs (4950円 to 5400円). At the same time, every SV regular expansion pack offered 3 AR / 1 SR per box
  • BW expansion packs 158円
  • XY expansion packs ~165円
  • SM expansion packs 165円
  • SWSH expansion packs 165円

While a 13 cent per pack increase on a product I don’t buy doesn’t affect me, I’d just like to just point something out.

2010 pokemon cards: $1.03

2013 cards: $1.07. A 4% increase.

2016 cards: No increase.

2019 cards: No increase.

Up until 2023 we see a 4% increase in price over a 13 year period.

In 2023 it increases to $1.17, a 9% increase, only to be increased again to $1.30 3 years later, 10%.

Post 2020, a product increases, in just 3 years, by 19%. Where for 13 years prior, it increased just 4%.

Welcome to post 2020 economics. This is the way of things. In next week’s news, grocery prices. It’s a doozy!

They cushioned the 2023 increase with a 3 AR/box insert (better pullrates and holo/2 reverse in every pack for EN). I assume TPC will offer something more to justify another ~11% box price bump because “soaring raw material costs” is not going to be enough

Interesting. I am however just pointing out basic prices to complain on the internet about costs of everything!
