thanks man… but don’t be disheartened. I’m newer to pokemon, just getting started here really, but have been collecting my whole life. I have loved my past collections too and was proud of what I put together at each step of the way, at different phases of life and at different income levels. someone will always have a bigger, better, more expensive set. I’m really late to the game here, and my pokemon collection is just a drop in the bucket to what some other people have and I am zen that it will probably always be that way. can’t have everything, can’t collect everything, someone will always have more. can’t let that take away the enjoyment of what you have though! that’s how I look at it at least. everyone deserves that feeling of pride for what they have and what they have worked for
thanks. you may be right. I’m not ready to go there just yet. I’m planning on being patient on that one… it’s the last so I don’t feel as much urgency. But yes that’s one where if it doesn’t hit the open market it’s all about catching someone at the right place and time with the right value

8k is already a substantial new record considering one sold privately about a month ago for around 5.5-6k. You pretty much need to weigh your options of either increasing your price so high that it almost forces someone to sell or just be patient and wait for one to go up for sale. The problem is the low pop and the fact that a lot of the high value cards are in the hands of long term collectors that don’t plan on selling.
Edit: 5.5-6k, not 5-5.5k
If a Chansey sold privately for $5k a month ago, that was a poor job on the part of the seller keeping up with market value. The last public sale was for $5k back in August, but prices in general have gone up a lot since then and there hadn’t been a Chansey that appeared on eBay for months until the one that popped up just a few days ago. As a seller, you gotta be aware of the fact that Chansey is the lowest pop Base Set card and what that means for its value.
Having said that, I agree that $8k is a strong offer!
you nailed it… I think going any higher is not for me right now. I just don’t value it that much even though it would complete my set. so I am choosing patience
@hyruleguardian yeah but remember that was a best offer accepted in August, I checked a while ago what the actual number was but forgot. Plus they’re losing out on a substantial final value fee on eBay. But I double checked and the seller said they were considering 5.5k offers so I was off actually with the 5k and believe it sold between 5.5-6k. I also can’t remember if it was thick or thin stamp and if there were any flaws as I don’t have any pictures saved of it. I remember I was debating buying it but didn’t pull the trigger, wish I did lol but I really wanted mewtwo and venusaur at the time. We all have those regrets in this hobby though and that kind of makes me feel better about it lol.
@jonandek it can be pretty tough to be patient when all it takes is that last card to complete the set though haha, I respect your restraint
Also, do either of you know if the eBay final value fee cap is still $750? I thought I remembered reading it got lowered but can’t remember.
if you have a store, it’s capped at 350. otherwise, 750 for regular sellers.

Good post, this is kind of why I’ve refrained, that many cards just laying around in storage is boring to me as a collector. I do like some of my binder sets but sometimes I forget about them. Hope you finish your goals!

Congratulations! The seller is a very nice guy, I have got many cards from him. I am assuming you purchased his copy. I was willing to go to 10k as well for my Chansey collection but too much competition for this card and you have deeper pockets
