So there have been many questions about lists of Japanese exclusives. I’ve found threads, but haven’t located the particular one that helps me. Bulbapedia and other resources just aren’t helping me. When you go to any of these, they list the registry, but they don’t provide pics. When you click the links on all these websites, they just show the english variety.
The question is simple. What are the Japanese exclusive artworks for specifically Gym Challenge and Heroes, and the four Neo sets?
I have obtained all the Holos from the Neo sets. But I just found another card, Blaine’s Growlithe (below), that is yet another exclusive. And I’ve tried to find a damn list. C’mon internet. Why isn’t the pokeworld on top of this? Surely the list is very small. I’m assuming somewhere around 5-10 exclusives per set. I don’t even need a resource, just a little list of the few that are different artworks than the english versions. @muk I will tag you because you might already have them all. I just want to make sure I’m not missing a single one. I keep stumbling on ones by accident, leading me to make this thread and end this once and for all!
(Oh, and this requested list includes any exclusive trainers as well, banned, etc.)
I might have them all figured by now, but I have no way of knowing for certain, so I need help here from my fellow JP collectors).
You said “…don’t even need a resource”, but I am too lazy to make a list so will just give you two web-sites with almost all scans… alamedyang collectorviper
Then there are two cards that weren’t included in English Gym sets at all. ___'s Chansey Imakuni?'s DoduoDid I miss something? Probably.
For the Neo sets, your best bet would be to start with Togepi (which is the first one I believe) in the 1999 Unnumbered Promo list and work your way down from there and just look for the set symbols on the cards. In the Premium Files I believe only the Neo 2 File has exclusive artworks, which are Zard and Pichu. Entei got an English Blackstar reprint IIRC.
The Fan Club Shining Magikarp should also be mentioned, since it has the Revelation Symbol, but a completely different holo texture.
There are a bunch of other cards that got holo treatment in JPN, but not in ENG. You might find them on the Bulbapedia pages of the sets.
Also a couple censored artworks, but I only remember Moo-Moo Milk off the top of my head.
@cracker, I meant that if one exists, great, but if not, I just needed to know which ones are exclusive, because I know there aren’t many.
The Collectorviper link was just what I was looking for… only problem is that this only had Neo. So I am good with Neo now, but this still leaves Gym sets. Neither website had gym. Collectorviper said “coming soon”, and the first website did not have the exclsives.
@muk , you are the best. Taking the time to do all, I certainly appreciate it greatly. Turns out, out of everything you mentioned, I did know a great number of them. Blaine’s Growlithe, finding today, but I am glad that I now know about Koga’s Gym trainer card as well, which I had no idea about before asking. I’ll have to add that to my list. Between your assistance on the gym sets, and @cracker 's link to the Neo sets, I believe I am all set. I was hoping there were a few more I was missing, but I guess it was just those two! But still, I needed every bit of what you guys gave me, so that I knew going forward. Seriously, thank you so much for the help!
Hopefully someone coming across this thread in the future can also benefit from it. Whether someone collects the same cards in japanese that exist in english or not, anyone wanting japanese cards would be thrilled at knowing any exclusives that they might not know are out there. And this is just for those particular sets. I have found various threads in the past about ALL the exclusives people have tried to find a comprehensive list for. It is daunting to say the least. Luckily I am only after earlier old back sets and such. Here’s another for the lurking reader:
Smpratte’s mentioned link about unnumbered promos was one of my first resources for my personal list of exclusives that I had to acquire over the years.
