Japan --> EU Customs

Hello fellow PokeCollectors!!

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on the customs charges for single cards and booster boxes from Japan To European countries. Thanks in advance!

I think I read someone on this forum that there shouldnt be any fee charged for single cards, and I really really need that info. The info itself could be more available if it wasnt lost in a post that has nothing to do about it.

To not make this post a two line begging for someone to help me xD:
I live in Spain, and two years ago small letters didnt pay customs at all (by the postal laws), unless they were brought by UPS, or Fedex or such, that kindly pay customs for you (and ofc getting their fee on it).

Things have changed now, and its more and more common to get stopped by customs, and, its crazy, but in Spain, the regular postal company charges you around 20 Euro for representing you on the customs (they dont do anything at all, just 2 paperworks), and then, they also charge 20% of the items declared value…

So, Long story short, I am trying to finish the SM8b, and got a mewtwo gx for 32 Euro + 6 of shipment, and I’m asked to pay 25 euro of customs… :sob: I really really want the card, and watching how the price has risen, I could afford to pay the 20% of it, but the extra 20 makes it crazy.

ask seller to declare low value, problem solved.

Look at @kaldoverde 's post, it shows exactly which laws are needed to show that they are excluded from VAT. Helped me already!

Depends on your country really. For me in Finland I pay 24% tax + 2,90 € handling fee from the combined cost of the item + shipping if the value is marked above 22 € (or equivalent of 22 € in other currencies). The only way to avoid it is for the seller to mark down the value. Sometimes Japanese sellers mark down by default but some don’t.

Let the seller mark the package as „gift“. The problem is though that middlemen and official businesses usually don‘t do that as it‘s illegal. If you ask a seller to declare a lower value and the item is expensive make sure to use a courier like Fedex and definitely not regular post.
