Volume wise I think they still have a chance to be the #1 grader for Pokémon in terms of cards graded per month. They will likely never be the market leader on resale value, but if they scaled their operations to insanely quick turnaround times and still offered dirt cheap grading, they could beat PSA in slabs welded per day

doubtful cgc is basically a comic book grader which is a completely different market segment than the pokebros

Personally, I’ve been more satisfied with my CGC subs over PSA this year. Never thought it would reach this point tbh.

In terms of volume, maybe? But not in terms of the overall market. Vintage is PSA, it is what it is.

CGC would be huge if their product carried the same premium as PSA 10 and BGS Black Label. In a world where CGC 10 = PSA 10 and CGC Pristine = BGS Black Label, CGC would be the clear leader for grading. Unfortunately, they’re more-or-less painted as the cheap alternative to PSA at the moment, and sometimes an expert in grading errors, test prints, and anything PSA won’t touch.
Anyway, I don’t think that CGC really cares to overtake PSA. I expect that they do extremely well financially, even if in a distant second place.

Whats wild about this is 15% market share today is still more volume than the entire grading industry pre-2020.

Plenty of demand for multiple grading companies. All trying to carve out there niche
Well that’s the point! At the beginning the difference wasn’t as pronounced and I think would have improved over time. Yes PSA still had a premium but worst case it was usually like 50% discount for cgc 9.5/10 to PSA 10 for low pop stuff, and many times I was able to make sales at 10-20% discount. Now it’s like 90% discount lol
I think they lost their shot after easing up on grading standards, and then changing their grading standards and design twice within a three year period. However, I think this was the right call, financially speaking.
