Issue with customer - PP help

Not sure what I should do here

Sold a played 1st Edition Base Holo Set to an international customers who had his middleman (i believe is a member here) pay for the item and I shipped to him. I actually requested the middleman pay for the item so the tracking would match up with the payment. I sent the set out immediately and the international customers confirmed his middleman received the set.

9 weeks later now the customer messages me saying I did not include the Nidoking and I needed to refund him $300. I was pretty sure I did include it but mistakes do happen so I told him I have a friend that lives close by that was willing to sell me one and I would buy it and send to his middleman immediately. He told me not to worry about it. I didn’t see this message until later so I went and bought the replacement Nidoking from my friend for $150, it is in nice condition and matches up with the rest of the sets condition. Now today I get a paypal case opened up from the middleman asking for $250 refund. I can’t help to feel I am getting scammed a bit here since I am offering to replace the card and pay for the shipping costs since I guess he already sent the rest of the set out. I have had many bull shit paypal cases opened up against me and have won them all, so I am leaning towards disputing the case and sending out the Nidoking. Or should I cave in and refund the now $250 the customer demands?

It should be the job of the middleman to verify that the contents being sent from both parties are accurate. If the Nidoking was missing then the middleman should have been the person to alert you of this, so from my perspective this should fall onto the middleman’s shoulders.

It sounds like there may have been a miscommunication between the buyer, middleman and yourself, so I think a good starting point would be to reach out to both parties.

You forgot to include the Nidoking (let’s assume as much). Assuming as such you’re obligated to refund the seller from that point forward. At which point the buyer should be allowed choose between a replacement or refund. If a refund is his preferred resolution I’d let it be at that. Don’t get wound around the axle over the difference.

I agree, I mean it was a pretty large transaction. I should have double and triple checked before I sent the cards but they should have confirmed everything right away in my opinion, not 9 weeks later. I know the $100 difference they are asking is not significant to most but to me it is a lot since I have been unable to work for the last 2 weeks and won’t be able to for awhile.

I agree with Pichu, the middlemans job is to receive the item, check it, make sure everything is in order and then ship to the buyer. Of course you not checking/taking pics/video of packing doesn’t help as you have nothing to fall back on with regards to checking you sent the correct items

If you forgot to include the card, it would likely be lying around your house somewhere right? So if you can’t find it, odds are you sent it in the package. Seems fishy it took this long for them to come to you about it. 9/10 when I have problems with customers it’s as soon as they receive it.

9 weeks later? Hell no. That is not right, if I order something I’m checking the contents that second. I would assume a middleman would be doing the same. Seems weird it took that long. The flip side, you’d think it would have been a different claim if they were trying to run a complete scam.

I’m offering to send one whether I forgot it or not I don’t know why he won’t accept it. I found one for $150, he wants $250. Also prices 9 weeks ago were less, maybe not a big difference in lower grade 1st edition base but they were definitely less. If you take off the value of Charizard Blastoise and Venusaur I sold the other holos for a little over $100 a piece.

If a scammer, why would he say only the Nidoking was missing?

I didn’t really mean he is a scammer, I was implying he is asking for too much money at $250 for a card 9 weeks ago I was buying for $100 in played condition.

Given the 9 weeks of radio silence the value of the refund should be based upon the delivery date, which is reasonable (and easily researchable)… if you were to dispute anything. Like I said I wouldn’t dispute the replacement card as he isn’t obligated to accept it.

You can use this card as a sales reference with paypal (I actually purchased this one mid June, ~9wks ago) www.ebay.com/itm/313159200317
