I like Golem too. I never understood why the Golem rookie was just an uncommon… The background would have looked amazing with a holo treatment.
Actually come to think of it, in that evolutionary line Geodude may be my only really unpopular favorite Pokemon. Mostly just because of the name. I’m George, but I went by the nickname Geo as a kid and I used Geodude as a username on other sites in the past.
I don’t think anyone hates it, but no one really talks about it outside of the early competitive battling scene in the early gens.
This is, in my opinion, the biggest oversight in the WOTC era. How Fossil Haunter was a holo while Golem was just an uncommon is beyond me.
I had to look up what that card looked like. Man, it would’ve look epic as a holo.
In the west at least, Magnemite doesn’t seem that popular. Magnezone has a ton of competitive use, but outside of that and the rare enthusiast, the line isn’t talked about much. Interestingly enough, I think Magnemite is a lot more popular in Japan for whatever reason, though I think part of the like is memey lol. It’s been voted fairly high in the last few years’ popularity polls and a couple years back Banpresto’s Ichiban Kuji did 5 Pokemon Research prize lotteries featuring merch of a specific Pokemon, of which the first was Magnemite. (The other 4 were Mimikyu, Magikarp, Gengar and Dendenne for comparison.)
I LOVE chibi Rhydon! And Rhydon in general. Skyridge Rhydon is one of my all-time favorite cards.
Also someone mentioned Steelix - also one of my faves. He was on my main team in Silver, at lv 70+…until some toddler erased my file. I think I cried for hours lmao
If a different form counts, Spiky-eared Pichu. She doesn’t get much attention and is the only Pokemon to not have a 3D model in the games. This means you cannot transfer it as an event Pokemon from HGSS into Pokemon Bank/Home or onto any other game for that matter.
Cause the noodle boi with storm drain is too much of a beast

I would also venture to say that even though Rhydon is Giovanni’s highest-level Pokemon in RBY, most people seem to associate Giovanni with Nidoking (who I actually think was Giovanni’s ace in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon).
Vileplume is criminally underrated.

I have a soft spot for all gen 3 Pokémon as Emerald was the first Pokémon game I really played (emulator). My favorite is Rayquaza, so not at all unpopular given that Ray is the mascot for multiple sets by this point lol. All of the legendaries/mythicals are nice as well. Deoxys is my next favorite of this bunch. I really enjoy Koffing/Weezing and Grimer/Muk. Breloom/Shroomish are also some of my favorites. I actually bought a Shroomish sitting cutie and it may be the most adorable thing I’ve seen.

IMO its face is too small
I don’t think any of the Pokemon you like are hated (or criminally underrated tbh – each of those have their cult followings). I love Shroomish (Shroomish > Breloom IMO) – I may have to pick up that sitting cutie if it stocks in again!

Raichu (itself fairly unpopular, all things considered) was always probably my favorite. However, Girafarig (always near the very top of my favorite list) seems to be overtaking that number 1 spot for me. So, yes, my favorite Pokemon is pretty damn unpopular. I truly don’t understand why Girafarig is so unpopular or forgotten, but meh, I’ll give it the love it deserves haha.
When I think Girafarig, I think of a giraffe with a below average length neck, and a bunch of bumpy knobs. What do you like about it?
Raichu is awesome – I think Pikachu definitely gets more love, but I don’t think Raichu is an outcast by any standards
