As far as releases go, this is probably one of if not the rarest releases. Yes, there are things such as no number topsun blueback, no rarity zard, fpo zard, but those are all some sort of printing error. WCP was an actual short-term release (like two weeks) that was dialed back because players found it unplayable. Of that 1-2 week release, only a day or two were unlimited WCP. So yeah, it’s def a card I’d like to have for my zard collection. It’s hella cool.
Considering all the early Japanese promotional material shows the cards lacking a rarity symbol, I would say that it was printed intentionally that way, and later changed.
Congratulations @masonkampe on those grades and congratulations @chrisbalestra for prying one out of Mason’s hands.
These cards are incredibly rare - the regular rare cards have the same if not lower pull rates than the ex cards in the set, and the unlimited version was to my knowledge only available for purchase at the Spring Battle Road 2008 tournaments.
The missing piece in my Pichu collection was the unlimited World Champions Pack card which is also a non-holofoil rare. I finally picked one of those up back in January this year - the previous sale I’m aware of was all the way back in 2015.
In a very, very bizarre turn of events I now have 2 more of those unlimited WCP Pichu cards en route to me… because, you know, why wouldn’t 2 more show up shortly after? Also, after posting about my Pichu addition I also learned of a someone here who pulled a Pichu from a pack not too long ago as well; they did accept a $200 offer which I upped to $450 but they decided not to sell the card in the end - and I really can’t blame them either.
I wouldn’t go as far as calling these as rare as the Unlimited E1 cards though - I think once more and more people learn about this set a lot more of them will make an appearance. It’s certainly by far the rarest non-promo set to have been sold publicly though, I don’t think any other similar publicly-released sets come close.
Here’s to hoping a battered unlimited WCP Charizard I’ve had with PSA since May last year gets a PSA 3 or 4.
I have been waiting for this card to appear in PSA 10 for a long while. Such a fantastic back story to this card considering it is a main set release. Probably one of the best.
As others have said I don’t believe the unlimited WCP Charizard to be as rare as the unlimited E series 1 Charizard. Just by considering the overall quantity of unlimited WCP cards to unlimited e series 1 cards that are available, it is obvious that there is by far less unlimited e series 1 out there. Not to say that there is a lot of Unlimited WCP cards available, but unlimited e series 1 seems to not have been available to the public. I do believe more Unlimited WCP Charizards will come out of the tall grass but I am sure demand for them will increase as people come to understand there existence and the interesting backstory which still isn’t full understood (it’s this mystery that is captivating). Just my 2 cents.
Just figured I’d make a little update relevant to this thread. It took some time, but I’ve managed to trade + purchase both of these zards off of @masonkampe , now owning both PSA 10s with sequential certs. When I rejoined the hobby in 2018, Charizards were what sucked me back in and what I immediately started collecting again. Feels good to own these bad boys as someone who likes a nice mix of “popular” + “limited print/rare”
