Is this card fake?

So I’ve recently been working on completing the Expedition Base Set and I’ve purchased all the holos over the last couple of weeks, now, as most of them have arrived, two stick out to be as being suspiciously fake. They’re both from the same seller and he has another one listed below (I bought the Ampharos as well):

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pokemon-TCG-Ampharos-Holo-Expedition-2-165-VGC/133480012606?hash=item1f14075b3e:g:kMcAAOSwAj5fFtbU

A few things I noticed, card itself seems quite thin and glossy, the holo is ridiculously profound (and even parts of the yellow card show a little holo glitter as well). The HP text looks slightly off when comparing it to others I’ve received and also the Pokemon copyright text is blurry.

Seller has 100% feedback and actually has a fake Haunter for sale (classic gold shiny border). Time to start the refund process? I don’t really want to call him out straight away as I worry about the negative feedback!

I am no expert, but I think it’s fake. The problem I have before you mention the other issues is that the holo pattern does not match with the card.

Your ebay seller:

A PSA graded card:

From what I remembered, the “star” holo is a notorious fake background from holos, so I think that’s a redflag in itself, not to mention the coloring is not even close to the same.

I’m no expert though!

Thanks man, I have requested a return for both cards, not sure what happens if the seller refuses though!

I’ve got a card from the e-reader era with the same holo pattern, definite fake. Becomes a lot more obvious in person, the card is even slightly smaller than normal ones. Hope this helps!

If they refuse then you open a case with ebay. They’ll most likely side with you

Don’t worry, you have quite a few protections in place, especially the seller is breaking Ebay’s ToS of selling counterfeits.

You have I believe 3 types of protections:

  1. Ebay buyer protection
  2. Paypal buyer protection
  3. Credit card chargeback protection

There’s an insane good chance that ebay will automatically side with you when you mention you’ve been sold counterfeits, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it!
