Seems like you didn’t answer the question and just wanted to tell us you have $60k in Pokemon cards. Nice collection
There was one comment thrown in about the market stagnating haha. Ok, I’ll delete wasn’t looking to flex thought people may want to ask questions to a buyer of modern stuff
My question is what would you do or how would you feel if your collection fell from $60k to $15k?
Not saying it will, just talking hypotheticals. Going from +100% to -100% value.
It’s hard to predict how you would respond in a situation look what but I’m curious if you have any thoughts.
That actually piques my interest in “what’s the average value of a collection for e4 users?”
I know this question is meant for him, but I feel like most people wouldn’t be thrilled. At that point, knowing you could get something cheaper feels regretful. Also, it’s not just the monetary value that is lost, but your time as well.
The time that you put in to gaining that value in a collection, then seeing it drop could be disheartening for most. Money can be made up; time can’t be given back.
Went to a card show yesterday, place was packed. Pokemon and One Piece were the most hyped tables by far.
For whatever it’s worth
Hmm, good question. I personally wouldn’t care to much because I just put fun money in to this hobby and believe in what I own for the long term. Plus it still looks just as good on display even if the value drops that much. If what I collect dropped over 50% that sounds like a great buying opportunity to get the rest of what I need.
I do think it’s either PSA 10s/black label or nothing for modern chase cards. PSA 9s don’t sell at all so I’ve resorted to cracking some PSA 9s to sell as raw. The supply of good condition raw modern seems to be harder and harder to find at good prices cause it’s all getting graded.
I think the market is going to continue to stagnate and or go down from here for modern stuff. Student loans starting up, the impact of the $600 tax reporting limit, and the bullwhip effect of oversupply with declining demand.
The modern market does need a rarity tier above 10 imo. 10s are just too easy. I’d say PSA 10 isn’t gonna cut it either. Modern buyers accept CGC more than vintage buyers do ATM and pristines have a decent premium above PSA 10s.
It’s a weird market and not one I invest in. I grade a lot of modern but nothing stays with me longer than a month even if it’s pristine.
I think this goes back to what @xileets was saying. It’s not the hobby that’s stagnating, it’s the market (imo). In other words, its not that people are necessarily exiting the market, its just that all the market participants are collectively buying less. If everyone in the hobby slashed their buying in half it would be the demand equivalent of half the hobby leaving.
Sound like it needs it’s own poll/thread.
This is the real question here

Not willing to answer, sorry to tell you. Even if it’s anonymous, I think we should not compare or share values. BUT I would be interested to know people personal belief on how their collection size rates compared to the overall hobby. DO you think yours is small compared to most? One of the larger ones?
I’ll answer. Value of my collection is priceless because I love my cards if they’re worth all the stonks or nothing
idk what it is but a single emoji turns me so off from a purchase. People seem to love them though
If you use the collectr app it’s possible to see how your recorded collection compares to all users. The year end summary they just sent out says mine is in the top 75% of all collectors using the app. Pretty anonymous way to share how your collection stacks up if you use the app
With the anonymous poll idea that was brought up, obviously it would just be the people who want to answer lol. I think that would at least give some type of insight into what the avg collection value would be worth on here.
Your idea about the average collection size is good, but I feel like varies way more.
Other places have done value/collection polls I’m sure, where it’s easier to compare between websites, unlike polls surrounding collection size.
