All these zoomer waifu collectors thirsty for Lillie, and I’m just a boomer with my Misty collection. :pensive:

That one’s been around for a while, and guess who owns the platform…

This has like tripled in 3 weeks…

I was considering buying it then, but thought it would drop lmao.

Not gonna be owning it anymore.

Maybe off topic but I have 1 sealed master Battle set and 1 promo set at PSA currently. Can you guys recommend me the easiest way to sell these from Germany ? By easiest I mean lowest risk of getting scammed and lowest fees.
Seems like the time to sell these is now in my opinion

Z&G emporium, TCA gaming, check with SMPratte through PWCC

Not sure Z&G sells anything other than graded cards, however I’m sure they would be willing to make an exception for a sealed MBS…

Cardmarket.eu has very low fees 5 or 6% and has great service. I would recommend to try it there.

Thanks guys ! Not sure about cardmarket since on top of their selling fee I might get charged with taxes as a seller (new german law) so that could get way more expensive. Will definitely check out the others though

There are a few promos I need that have not gone crazy yet and all this is making me think I should just bite the bullet already.

Which ones? :eyes:

Honestly, ive been noticing the Japanese market shifting since late last summer. When the final 25th anniversary reprint went last August, i felt a sharp change going into the fall. With the release of SV, things have seriously exploded. Wish i had more SM to sell into the hype :sob:

you aren’t wrong, I’m pretty sure japanese youtuber Hikaru said he would buy all the psa 10 gx battle boost lillie’s he has the chance to. I believe last time I checked he owned 9 copies.

Was this latest craze really all started by the run on Yu Nagaba promos? Kind of wild to think about the timeline

In my opinion, the japanese modern market has been running up for about a year now. I distinctly remember JP collectors talking about how SM cards were taking off last summer. This included cards like Latios Latias Tag Team and Sightseer from Tag allstars. Obviously relative to right now, ā€œtaking offā€ in value then, was less than it is now lol. SWSH cards were going kinda crazy too like Eevee heroes, marnie from s4a, gloria from s8b. 25th anniversary also really took off, starting from last summer. Specifically, you had umbreon star go from like $50 to like $160, birthday pikachu from around $30 to like $200, etc.

To sum up: no, i dont think the latest craze was all started by yu nagaba promos. I think what happened there was pretty characteristic of how things have been going in the japanese card market, at least from my outsider perspective. Youve got brand new SV sets going for $300 a box because some random trainer in the set is $1000+ on release. Giratina V and Lugia V were like precursors for this kinda thing, again, last summer. Stamp promos came out 100,000 copies, $200 out the gate— its like $500 for a stamp pikachu rn! I could go on and on, but you get the point. I am unsurprised an exclusive set of eevee promos sold out incredibly fast. I saw a $20 buylist with umbreon at like $30. I dont think thats outrageous prices all things considered lol

the prices im quoting are approximations in CAD

There have been drastic increases in the price of cards in the past week though? I’m talking a near overnight 2-3x in some instances of modern Japanese cards. It just seems interesting that it happened immediately after the Yu Nagaba promo campaign.

But I do agree the trend has been obvious for over a year – it’s just the big, drastic, parabolic jumps in price have happened this past week.

Idk i think it kinda just erupted like a volcano. On the surface, things just kinda happened, but underneath, things have been bubbling and stewing for a while until the perfect conditions cause the whole thing to burst.

Maybe the nagaba promos were a catalyst/ straw that broke the camels back type situation? It doesnt make a lot of sense to me that the whole JP modern market would just exponentially explode over night because some promos came out. The promos probably caused Pokemon Center to sell out of everything, so maybe thats a factor in people looking to older cards. Idk though thats just my impression :person_shrugging:

Edit: i took this screenshot on May 13

This is from like yesterday lol. Lots of 2x and even more in some cases. Again, I’m not saying Yu Nagaba himself caused a marketwide bullrun of cryptocurrency proportions, I’m just saying it would be an interesting catalyst given the timing. Like, the Nagaba promos are the canary in the coalmine so to speak
