Let’s goooo!!!
Odd reaction
beckett will be crushed under the heel of the superior PROFESSIONAL SPORTS AUTHENTICATOR
Dallas resident here. As someone who doesn’t use Beckett, I’m so pumped.
Lindberg pled guilty to nearly all the counts this week. Looks like jail time

Second time actually.
But yeah, interesting to see how all this plays out.
Beckett need to be sold for them to get the investment they need.
I think this is the death rattle for BGS with it’s current ownership.
It goes to show that they have been hamstringed massively in the last few years, with having investment designated for them to innovate (they were moving into ai grading) pulled from under them.
Hopefully whoever buys BGS can make it competitive again and give it the capital it needs.
I would warn against subbing cards to BGS in the short term Incase it does go bankrupt and your cards get stuck there.
Fingers crossed they can get back on track before the bull run that I feel is birthing.
Interesting takes in that video. So tldr:
- Linberg will have to sell Global Growth (which owns Beckett)
- Fanatics is not in an ideal position to buy (they have debt of their own)
- Collectors doesn’t really benefit as much (already own PSA & SGC)
- Which leaves CGC rubbing their hands meme in the background
Interesting to see what will happen in the next few years
Collectors doesn’t benefit at all from this, agreed. CGC’s owner, Blackstone Tactical, is a fund with $37b AUM so I would assume buying BGS if the numbers are right, would be extremely easy to do if they have any available cash left
Fnatics
CGC
or some other fund yeah.
There are a lot of players with $ in the collectibles space so I’m certain there will be several interested parties.
Just a bumpy road ahead in the short run.
Thoughts and prayers
Whoever ends up acquiring BGS should focus on improving the experience for customers rather than major rebranding, similar to how Collectors left SGC alone. CGC (the company) on the other hand would be in a weird position having CGC cards and BGS, kind of redundant.
It’s also important to note that fanatics/pwcc already had a partnership with BGS, not sure if this relationship is strong enough to consider here. I actually think new ownership is a good thing in the long term.
There’s a lot of smoke out there about Fanatics and how their private market value has cratered since 2022. One of their subsidiaries just had a credit downgrade too and they are cash flow negative in general. I’m not actually entirely sure they can afford a buyout? (Although I’m not sure how much bgs would cost)
It’s a highest bidder situation, so yea who knows
CGC Black Label in 2027
Their Customer Experience has massively improved in the past year or so, but they are still playing catchup.
The good:
- New website is way more user friendly
- New submission system is basically the same as PSA now
- Customer service is way better (I have a direct line to my rep, who is awesome - shoutout to Brennan Archer at BGS)
- Social media presence is much better (eg. Black Label Gang)
- The grading is for the most part much more consistent than PSA (in my experience). Yes, there are some grades I disagree with, but the variance is way less compared to my PSA experiences (usually I feel a card is a 9.5 and it comes back a 9++)
What they need to do ASAP
- Scans for standard+ submissions, why they havent done this I will never understand
- Improve turnaround time - currently they are maxing out their turnaround levels (maybe due to short staff)
- Do a CGC and get rid of 9.5 gem mint grades. Honestly this was the biggest thing that helped CGC out - people want 10s - 9.5 isnt doing them favours. Most collectors dont care so much about the granular nature of subgrades, they understand a PSA 10 is on a sliding scale for example.
BGS were going to do this (before CGC did it) but they were going to downgrade basic 9.5 and quad 9.5 to mint+ which went down very poorly amognst most BGS collectors (magority of which own 9.5s).
So, bump all 9.5s to 10s, keep Pristine 10 and Black Labels, change grading scale and remove 9.5 gem mint, add scans and get more cards into the market by reducing pricing (maybe even grade at a loss for a period of time, so that effeciencies can be implemented like AI grading - which they were going to do, even before TAG was a fart in the wind) to imrpove margins.
To conclude, I am excited for the future of this hobby and whatever your position on BGS is, it is good for PSA to have more competition.
