I think they are referring to additional pictures besides the reasonable front and back already provided. That is typically the sign of an overly critical buyer. Especially on lower value cards.
This is a thing?! I need to look this up, what if you as the seller had already spent that money elsewhere? eBay suddenly force you to find 5k yourself? The knock on effect could cause some serious issues and stress.
If they can only afford the offers they are giving then they should either a.) wait for a cheaper card to pop up on eBay, b.) wait until one with an actual Best Offer option surfaces or c.) not be buying Pokemon cards in their current financial situation.
No one is entitled to a Pokemon card. If they can’t afford it then they shouldn’t be buying it. It’s really that simple.
I’ve only done this a handful of times, and it was just to see the back of a card (either graded or ungraded) that didn’t have a back photo.
But yeah. I hate when people ask for more photos when there are several blatantly clear photos of the card. I have also noticed that people who do this never actually end up buying the card.
My thought is that if someone solicits you via message and consumes your time asking you to do something for them, there’s no obligation to be cordial.
Of course if you’re interested in establishing a professional business, something like Charlie’s response is ideal. But if you just want to sell things in your free time and aren’t interested in people who arent paying top dollar I dont think these responses are inappropriate
I can’t speak to whether or not this type of question is happening more often. Did you list a bunch of slave cards recently?
Define ‘slave cards’. I did put up a bunch of base 2 and unlimited base cards. I rarely list anything lower than a PSA 9. It could very well be the items I’ve listed recently aren’t super high end and could have been attracting the bottom of the barrel collectors.
Kind of a catch 22, I need to sell these items, but I don’t want to deal with the people they attract.
*This post isn’t intended to insult anyone, if you’re insulted by my terminology it’s a reflection on yourself for thinking of yourself as applicable to the terms used.
Now I’m just curious if a PSA 10 1st ed computer search would ever sell for $800. The only people that annoy me are the ones that message me when I have best offer active and ask right away what’s the lowest i’ll take without even making an offer.
I know. I’m just saying that because asking twice what the second highest copy is currently priced at makes it appear like you’re not really interested in selling.
Fair enough but you never know what the sellers attitude would be. A lot of sellers on eBay aren’t pros and are just looking to get rid of stuff and maybe just throw up the card not thinking about having a best offer option.
I guess Charlie’s normally business like but wasn’t it him who replied to my eBay private message this way? “Listen, I don’t like to deal with bottom feeding lowballers or picky ocd sickos. YOU’RE BANNED!!!”. Or was that Scott? Not sure.
I have messaged people before saying “this item sold twice this month for half your listing, can you do $x” and most of the time it’s a yes. It is probably just people doing research and seeing your prices are higher than recently sold listings.
Guy ran out of his 5 offers on eBay (all automatically declined). He then messages me asking if I’ll take 130 for a 180 card. I tell him no thanks, no interested in dealing with a lowball. I can see his highest offering of the 5 was only $145. I tell him no thanks, the listing will auto-decline anything lower than $170 and that eBay isn’t Virbank. Not sure if these lowballs are entitlement or just hoping the seller is stupid?
As Scott calls them, “Lowballing swamp scum” lol jk, they only hurt the hobby and artificially lower values cause when one desperate or clueless seller accepts the lowball it shows up at that price on pokemonprice.com or PSA, then other lowballers point to that as a legit sold price to drive down another copy.
