Investing

Feeling better thank you for asking bit of a heat wave coupled with high humidity recently here in Aus but cooling down thanks to some rain storms etc.

Also I am not saying Evo is a loser investment as I have not known a Pokemon Booster box to ever sell lower than its RRP in its future, but perhaps there are other items with more worthy upside that 20 mill other people aren’t hoarding but who the hell knows that’s why I only collect Pokemon cards and invest my time in Pokemon

Beating a dead horse I know but evo is going to be over printed to shit, we will only be able to see where it’s going once it’s put of print and then I think it will just be a game of who can not get cold feet first. As people sell up when they see the returns aren’t what they expected those who hold on the longest will benefit greatly. Basically just wait it out and let others sell their product then finally reap the rewards in 5 or so years from when it’s not printed. If everyone holds onto it however then it simply won’t rise much as the supply will outweigh demand for sealed product. I think that there are currently many many better options to invest in pokemon with the eye of sauron seemingly solely focused on evolutions.

Legendary collection must be the greatest example of this on the other side of the spectrum.

LC is a prime example of how 3rd party or outside influences have such a massive effect on how desirable things are. LC can attribute a lot of it’s popularity to social media.

evolutions had a big print run just by looking at it. many places sold out within days of the set original release and had to get more from pokemon. generations I feel as it is more worth investing as they only sold the packs in the mythical collection and that elite trainer box. no other pure way to obtain them other than those ways unless people just hoarded all of the boxes

I think Generations sealed boxes were an amazing investment upon initial release, especially if you were able to buy at a bulk rate. The set has a lot going for it in the sense that it includes a radiant collection, making it a bit similar to Legendary Treasures, minus the gold cards and the ton of reprints, which makes it better and worse. But I think the great pull rates for these booster packs also make them appealing to open, just like LT, and the set has a few cards that people will want to get such as the mega charizard ex. At this point, I would feel comfortable buying Generations sealed product at MSRP, but skeptical paying anything more for them, simply because I think there are some other possible investments now that present potential, such as Japanese CP6. Sun and Moon also looks promising long term, with the large number of ultra rares (although someone opened a booster box with 2 GX, 1 FA GX, and 2 Hyper Rare GX). So I’m not sure how what the average pull rates will be, but I like this set, because it has more variations of ultra rares to collect, Umbreon/Espeon, FA Ultra Ball, and possibly the only set for awhile to have an 11th card.

Not sure how that can be quantified really. The way I see it is it was a nostalgia set too ahead of time.

I think he means that LC was hyped big time on social media. It was never a popular set, ever. It wasn’t until it had social media hype, similar to gs, masaki, shinings, no rarity, etc. Nothing inherently wrong with the cards or hype, just that it was the main force behind LC’s exponential growth.

I’m sure there’s an element of truth to it. I was under the impression that the biggest factor of LC success was the incredibly small supply at the time due to the then popularity of Pokemon Cards. I feel like the social media bubbles we’re a part of are a drop in the ocean but that’s just my feeling.

Honestly no one noticed LC until social media. Very similar to No rarity. Both existed a long time, but were never an established staple item until social media hype.

I remember going into 7 11s and the like and finding display boxes full of LC. I bought a ton of LC packs as a kid, but would’ve kept all of those sealed if I would’ve known what they’d end up being worth. Same thing with the Neo sets, they were still everywhere at the time. Crazy how some things shoot up in price years later.

I had the same experience. LC was synonymous with base set 2; they were both reprints and always available in stores.

LC is popular strictly because of its reverse holos. It was just an artist recognized after its death. Raw aesthetic is king. No discussion to be had.

The reverse holo’s were present from day one though, I think the discussion was more about the significant price increase that the set has experienced and what the main factor for that is. It’s not really cut and dry though as there are several contributing factors, mainly those that have been mentioned already. Pardon me for discussing it.

The problem is that I post on a forum when my jokes are literally only funny to me.

ROS for example?

I think it’s those 3 pesky charizards that came from LC and how low pop they are in GEM 10. They are different versions of the original grail, and difficult to grade, and even difficult to find as many people who own a sealed Lava theme deck aren’t going to be opening it just to get that non-holo zard. All of which equals big price point :sunglasses:

What does the deck look like? The only Lava theme decks I have seen have no mention of a Charizard being included.
