Info about Chansey Vending Series needed....

Hi everyone

I bought a card on ebay a few weeks ago. I was trying to buy the Chansey for someone who collects Komiya cards. The seller has eventually sent me a card but not the one I ordered. I was wondering if anyone can give me some more infor oin the card thjat has arrived? It is the same artwork but is the one from the Red/Green started decks with no rarity symbol…

Any info would be appreciated. Bulbapedia says this is the more valuable version so should I keep it or send it back and ask for the card I bought?

Thanks for your help

They’re worth roughly the same. The red/green decks are tougher to find than vending but grades easier. Vending cards need to be peeled from a sheet which often introduces condition issues.

Either way I’m sure the seller would appreciate a message informing of the mixup.

I’d agree with @jkanly that the cards are roughly equal in value.

Besides the rarity symbol, another difference between the two cards is the finish on the front of the card. The ones from the Vending Series have a glossy finish. I tried to capture it for you:

Thanks so much for the replies. I think I’ll keep it but I will also send the seller a message. Although if this grades easier and the Vending card I bought was also a 9 do you think that swings it a bit the other way?

The cards from the Quick Starter Gift Set are supposed to be more rare than the regular vendings

Scarcity dynamic against grading toughness balances them out. Otherwise one would be noticeably worth more than the other.

Also, my man @muk might have some useful info if it already hasn’t been said. He’s good with the vending/gift sets.

I personally like the no rarity symbol aspect of it more, if it were me I’d keep that one.

@brendantheclayboy thanks for tagging me, but there isn’t much more to add to what’s been said already. It’s correctly labeled and a deserving 9 due to centering. Nice card in any version, love the artwork!

Thanks so much for all the replies. I love this…so many people with the knowledge willing to help. So cool!

So I messaged the seller and said about the mix up and they said if I want to keep the card they would offer me a good price on the vending one too…I obviously accepted…but then they sent me a message saying they undercharged me for the card I have and have to pay the difference on the card I bought and asked for another £40!

What would eBay’s stance on this be? The card obviously doesn’t have fixed value so I’m I right to think I can just refuse this?

Thanks so much for your help.

@libbylibby that is not your responsibility to make up for their mistake–you are entitled to keep the thing, or return for a full refund for the NAD rule. They can’t ask you for more money because of their mistake, and frankly, it is kinda tactless of them to do that. As a seller, live with the mistake or request the card back for the right one to replace at a discount is what I would do. You are not required to do that. And yes it has no set value anyway so that is completely arbitrary on their part.

Oh and ebay’s stance would be that they sent the wrong card so it is NAD. Just as said above. The only options are return it for replacement or refund or keep. There is no requesting additional money.

They want you to pay more for the card they already sent you or for the new one offered?
It´s his fault when he doesn´t price correctly, he has no ability to get more money from you when you already have the card in hand.

AFAIK eBay does not have a stance on this, There is nothing the seller can do to get it back or whatever extra money they think they may deserve for it.

Sounds like they are trying to rectify a mistake they made at your expense by charging you extra for a separate sale. It’s a win-win for the seller they make an extra sale out of you which is ridiculous.

You can just refuse the offer if you are happy with the card you have.

If not you will have to return it via an “item not as decribed” case via ebay (seller should pay for return postage)

He’s asking for £40 more for the one I already have and the he wants £70 for the vending 9 x

I don’t want to send it back because I had a negative experience recently where I sent a card back because it wasn’t in the condition stated but then it disappeared in the post and I ended up with no card and no money..it was a 1st edition Team Rocket Sneak Attack x

I’m going to keep the card I have..it’s just as beautiful…I just feel like he’s holding the card I wanted at ransom xx

Well, you owe him nothing. You bought, he shipped, end of story. 70 pound is a fair price, a few of them sold for 70-80 euros recently. Not sure if he would honor the deal though if you refuse to pay him more for the first

all i can say is ive seen less of the one you got than the vending.

OK Thanks everyone…I’m going to keep the card and source the vending one elsewhere…I don’t want to get in to an argument with the guy…agree it’s bad business though…x
