It’s happening more frequently now than ever before.
I’d pay attention to Steve Aoki. I have a feeling he’s behind quite a lot of movement
and possible buyouts in many other TCGs
Why is this jackass even still relevant? He got kicked out of Japan for a reason. I don’t favour anyone who pulls the stunts he did, regardless of how much money he spends on the hobby.
All collectors have to make compromises. There’s always something out of reach, even for Logan Paul. We all have a different ceiling depending on when we entered the game and how much we could afford to spend when we did enter.
In 2016 I could only afford to spend $1500 on a box. At that time I was already priced out of 1st Edition Base. It would have been pointless for me to dwell on that and give up. Instead, I gave it some thought and adjusted my goals. Base Unlimited boxes were still within reach. I decided to make that my “buy and hold for life” box instead, and I’m pretty happy with that decision. Base Unlimited will likely be the only vintage box I ever own, but that’s okay. I only need one piece of history.
Someone younger and in a similar situation today may have to settle for a single pack of Base Unlimited. Their piece of history will be smaller, but nevertheless it’s still a piece worth having. In a couple decades even a single pack may seem mythical and out of reach for new collectors. The new collectors of 2040 will have to settle for something else, and so the cycle will continue. It’s the nature of the hobby.
So, rather than wish we started sooner, I think we should just appreciate that we are here right now, witnessing such an exciting resurgence of Pokemon on a global scale.
Nobody is entitled to own any card, and a majority of all the Pokemon cards ever printed are still at a price point that an average hard working person can obtain with a little bit of saving.
‘What if they’re 16’? Get a part time job, do odds and ends and save towards that card you want, everyone wants instant gratification these days, collections take years to build.
i was sort of surprised when lp said he’s done with pokemon in another video, but i do like this encore in february. i don’t know what the future holds, but i’m quite optimistic. excited to see the hobby continue to grow in 2021.
looks like collectorscache revealed that they have a contact who has been slowly selling their 21-box stash slowly. i would imagine that person still has 15+ boxes…and it’s not gary…who has another 8-9 boxes?
There’s many things I could say but gave my word I wouldn’t. Here’s a few things I can say:
Logan does have a ceiling.
All my boxes are securely still in my collection, and will remain there.
There are several events already planned this year that should blow this amazing one out of the water.
I’m guessing the packs may go in the vicinity of 18k each. I am getting 15k offers today for unweighed from wiseguys.
Three VERY big names will be coming on the scene this year. They won’t be as out there as Logan.
I told everyone who asked that at no time was Logan “done with pokemon”. It’s just that he finally listened that his lips moved ships, and it wasn’t in his best interest to announce every move. This is why he got the boxes so cheap. Now he’s at it again lol.
Lastly, for the haters above, why?. This is exciting. It’s exhilarating. And most of all, even though many of you won’t understand, it’s normal.
No doubt, i think that is the whole reason he makes these cringe videos, he is making a lot of money from doing this. Everyone said good news for the hobby last time but then i see threads full of collectors getting burned out, wanting to quit the hobby and also hundreds of eshops popping up everywhere clearing out stores of modern product to flip to new “investors” instead of kids being able to get packs. A hell of a lot has changed in the past 1-2 years, Can’t blame it all on him though as prices were steadilyrising before he got involved, he just jumped on the boat and set sail, I’m just wondering where it will end up.
Exactly. A lot of collectors havnt finished building their collections yet so price increases suck. Now people selling are all smiles but it still comes down to the end consumer/collector that really needs to be happy with their purchase. And be able to afford to collect.
If a card goes up in value you can’t just expect a bigger paycheck from your boss to cover it. Now you’re saving from multiple checks instead of just buying what you want when you get paid.
I think his video is really well made, I’m happy or him that he found so many boxes and for the sellers to get life changing money !
What it does to price we can only speculate on, but can we just enjoy the fact that so many people are in to the hobby we all love?
There are so many options with collecting Pokémon if you don’t just focus on the money, it’s not just Base set so enough opportunity for everyone!
Wish we maybe had a more positive force than Logan Paul representing the hobby right now. Can’t doubt the economic effect he will have, but meh, over his hype train and persona.
This sounds super exciting, even if it does mean that prices might rise to the point that some people won’t be able to afford some cards they want.
Personally I see both sides of the coin, I have some really nice cards since I have been back into the hobby (2012) but still can’t afford all the cards I like due to uni and living expenses. Nevertheless, I think the events and publicity is great for the hobby.
However, I also think parts of the market are overhyped/overscalped. What this might mean for the younger generation I don’t know, I hope that demand can be met so that they can enjoy the hobby and continue to, much like many of us have.
Ps. Loved your little cameo in Radars recent vid. Nice little pick up for him
The amount of negativity is astonishing. People have to understand that they are not entitled to certain prices. The main reason people complaining as always is potential price increases. I would like to have more first ed base as well, but that´s just how it goes. Pokemon is an UNNECESSARY good.
You make it sound like 1st Ed base set boosters should still be on the shelves today at 2.99. Somebody complained when they doubled to 6.00. Somebody else cried when they hit 20.00. Then 50.00. Then 100.00, 500.00, 1000.00, 5000.00, 10,000. You complaining now. Well, where exactly should that collectible have stopped increasing and who should determine that and when? Like I said in my earlier post, this is normal. This is collecting protocol.
Because everyone that is saying ‘Its amazing what logan paul is doing for the hobby’ is most likely getting some financial gain. The collectors cache situation hugging logan paul for what he has done for the hobby, pretty sure its because hes spent 750k with the guy and given his business more profit now. Its not to say there is anything wrong with that, money makes the world go round and all that but the people noticing that will get called salty.
Its the same as taking advice from a person or business who can use that platform to raise their share. I think its a fair statement to say when you get a rush of people coming in from what is basically a new advertisement for the hobby, they are not likely to at first be long term collectors. I mean they have come from being a follow of logan paul for god sake… I think one example is how pokemon cards soon became a discussion of ‘what’s the best for me to invest in’.
There is a lot of people that are shit out of luck for not buying and being into pokemon cards for the last 20 years, but its a side effect of the current movement. So if you say its great for the hobby, but then get frustrated seeing the constant ‘I cant afford this or that, what should I invest in, value my collection’ and then call them salty, well its just what the doctor ordered.
For me with some cards to have made some descent gain, yer thats good but hey thats where it stops, Its a really un-enjoyable time to buy or sell.
