Hey man just my humble observation here, but it seems like a lack of planning and foresight got you into the headache and based on your responses to this thread it seems like your leading yourself down the same path.
Not willing to inventory some cards to maximize your down payment but you want to buy a house… what happens when your roof starts to leak? Your hot water tank goes out? Not sure if someone fire saleing or willing to take losses on there entire collections should be seriously looking into real estate. Would suck to default and be left with nothing.
You know PSA grades more than 7 figures cards a year, and I really doubt they are going to risk there entire business for your PSA 7 charizards. Or whatever else you have in your collection.
If you really want to start investing in real estate and provide a better life for your family just put in the work. You will never regret it in the end. I can pretty much gurantee if you take a loss on your entire collection as time goes on and you run into hard times again you WILL regret it.
As someone who collected for the past 18 years and is currently in the process of liquidating his collection, maybe I can offer up a few things to keep in mind. I don’t know what your position is but at @smpratte has said, don’t get caught up in the quick cash aspect. I feel that so many times it is easy to sit back and see what the value of one’s collection is worth and just imagine having all of that money. I have done it myself! So if you can afford to hang on to the stuff that means the most, I would do it. If you have no other option to sell (and sometimes in life that happens) then why not get top dollar for it? Take the time to inventory what you have, research and allow people to make offers.A fire sale is not the way to go and will likely only lead to regret. Additioanlly, trying to find someone to buy your entire collection outright isnt likely to happen So far it has taken me over a year and I am still Slowly making my way through things. Additionally the decision to sell most of my collection was not made overnight but was a careful decision and I felt it was time to move on to other things. I dont regret it one bit and I am happy both both the decisions I made and the prices my cards achieved. If you to decide to move on to something else, in this case a house for your family just make sure you put even more time and thought into it! As others have said, being a homeowner is a big contentment and comes with a lot of other expenses. I wish you the best of luck with your collection!
When I have to decide on something major I try to consult with others to get alternate viewpoints. M’ is looking for other perspectives. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a solid grasp on his situation. He’s a very smart cookie and he WILL make the right decision for himself and his family.
Thank you all so much for the advice, I’m still in the process of making that list. I might keep one card and pass on the rest. I’ve noticed that many of you speak about regret but I don’t think I will have any. Thanks again and I will update soon. Lol at the guy who claims my Charizards are PSA 7, they’re all 11’s boi.
I hate to see you leave M, but I understand and I wish you the best! I will brainstorm some ideas for you and I will DM you if I come up with anything good…
P.s. you can always donate your collection to Zach Eggers.
