I need help on whether or not to grade these cards

Hi everyone, I’m new to grading and am in the middle of researching the topic. While I know for sure that I will submit one card (not in the below list), I need help in determining if these fours cards are worth grading. I have looked into the graded prices for each, but given the condition of my cards, I’m not sure if grading them would be a financially sound choice. May I have some answers please in what to do? I’ve been looking for advice for a little bit.

The cards are:

  • Magneton #H18 (Skybridge
  • Zapdos #150 (Supreme Victors)
  • Clefable #7 (Expedition, non–holo)
  • Golem #148 (Skybridge, holo)

Pictures of each are below:

  • Magneton #H18 (Skybridge)

  • Zapdos #150 (Supreme Victors)

Clefable #7 (Expedition, non–holo)

  • Golem #148 (Skybridge, holo)

At this point in time, grading is cheap and fast and easy compared to the potential reward/risk

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I think for me, I’d only like to sell if I fall on hard times. So, it’s more of a mindset being “I want to grade these for myself, but if I need to sell them, I want to be able to make something decent off of them”. That’s where my question comes from if that makes sense.

I have also thought of doing a “pilot” grade for a random full art to thoroughly understand the process. However, I would be confused if I deemed a card to be a 9 through research and have it be graded as an 8, but I think that is a universal thing that confuses people when grading.

Welcome to the forum! Just in case you’re not aware, your Golem is what’s known as a reverse holo. This Golem is also often referred to as a crystal card (along with several others from the Aquapolis and Skyridge sets), and can be found in both holo and reverse holo. This will affect what price you can ask if you ever do come to sell it. Also I’m assuming it was probably autocorrect but the set it’s from is known as Skyridge rather than Skybridge.

Just remember this. No matter how much research you do about grading it is all subjective at the end of the day depending on who is grading. Even grade 10’s can have flaws. Im sure you may know that, but there are tons of people who think they will get a 10 because a card they deem perfect, and are perplexed when it comes back an 8, only to resubmit it, and get a 9 or 10.

I would only grade cards you actually enjoy, and focus on the actual condition versus the number they give the slab. Some others enjoy seeing the 10 though, so if thats your thing then thats fine too.
