So I spent the last half year putting this together, and don’t have the budget to complete the Charizard in PSA9, right now.. Maybe in the future. So in the mean time I put the Pikachu in there but I am trying to figure out what “Charizard” to put in there. What would you guys do? Like Get a PSA9 Unlimited? Lower grade First Edition. Either ways its a few bux to buy even a filler card so I am not sure..
I was lucky to get the Bulbasaur late last year before the price on that spiked. In hind sight I should have started with the Charizard.
To match evenly with the same configuration I would downgrade all of them, but start with charizard first. Whatever is within budget, unless youre really close with the money on the 9.
For me, Shadowless or low grade 1st edition. They both will fit the general aesthetic of the frame, in my opinion.
Of course, if the budget is a problem don’t be afraid to consider unlimited (or whatever reprint you like!). It’s still a cool, impressive charizard to showcase, and you can always upgrade it when prices feel right.
I would leave it empty so that it gives you motivation to save up for the PSA 9 Charizard.
Every time you wake up, look at the empty space.
Every time you go to bed, look at the empty space.
Every time you think about buying Starbucks, look at the empty space.
Every time you want to order food, look at the empty space.
Every time you add to your Amazon cart, look at the empty space.
If you really wanna fill the spot before getting a 1st ed charizard, I’d go with the recommended evolutions charizard as that one quite cheap (relatively). As for a final card, you definitely have to go with a 1st ed charizard, regardless of the grade.
Buying every other Charizard than 1st edition PSA 9 will chip away from your budget which you could have saved towards your goal.
Let’s say that by saving $200 a month, you can buy one in about 10 years. If you don’t want to wait, I would just sell everything and get unlimited for the frame.
Also assuming you want to display it in your room with a window, you might also feel less stressed about the UV sun damage with unlimited.
Motivation plus budget! Leaving empty would stick out like a sore thumb and would give you extra motivation. Just filling it with any random card is just a waste of resources which could be used to get the actual card you want.
Leaving it empty and saving for the PSA 9 1st Ed will not only look the best but it’ll also be by far the most satisfying collection goal to complete. IDK about you but for me personally the idea of downgrading just 1 card in the collection would feel so bad. I’d choose to work hard, delay my dopamine and go for the full set, even if it takes years
Thanks for all the comments.. You guys have touched on all the things I have been thinking about. Like not spending 2-3K on a card to fill the slot which would then take away budget for the PSA9. But I guess I could always sell it.
Also these cards are behind Museum Glass in that frame so should be UV safe and are not in direct sunlight at any point.
I will definetly not be selling these and getting lower PSA or Unlimited.. Took a a lot of effort to get these so that would feel like a let down to part with these now.
I like the comment about leaving it empty.. Would definitely be a motivation to fill it but realistically the budget is tapped out for at least a couple years.
A cd promo Charizard might look nice, it would probably stick out a little and the cd promos have recognizable artwork I honestly love the look of them and feel like a cd promo Charizard might look nice for the time being
