It wasn’t me who found E4; it was E4 that found me.
Love this place and the people

So kind of a two parter-er
So i would occasionally google information regarding releases of certain stamped cards. Whether it was a staff card or a niche promo of some sort, and i noticed a lot of the times it would bring me here. You guys knew your stuff consistently and i was impressed. I dont like facebook, or have a lot of friends irl (recovering alcoholic 2 years sober long story) so i tried collectr. Maybe an upopular opinion here so i apologize but i absolutely hate what that platform made me. I was constantly looking at prices of cards and started to feel like my collection was trash. Everyone on there seemed more concern with the hype or how much their collection was worth and it made me feel disgusting. Stopped using that one for a while and came here. I feel a lot better and like this is the right place. So those two things, your collective knowledge, and similar peers. Just want to have an outlet where i can learn, talk, and connect with people who enjoy what i enjoy.
Despite I’ve already answered this question on the Discord Server some times in the past, I’ll answer it again, but now here (in this thread)
In a nutshell, I found this site by accident. I’m a card researcher (I search information about cards and also edit images via Adobe Photoshop). I remember 2 specific articles that I found while doing researches about e-Reader.
Then, I found other 2 articles (articles which convinced me to join here and the Discord Server):
The rest is history … I joined and here I am … writing about Pokémon Trading Cards during free time … and I really like it!!!
Thanks for everything!!!
I was looking for some info and opinions on gold stars and ex cards and i actually found it here (via google)!
Somewhere back in like 2017? For sure by 2018, I started watching Smpratte videos and that was that.
Setting the Stage: The stagecoach Story is the official first-hand account of how I created the cardboard collector, forum contributor, and cultural phenomenon known and loved today as “the stagecoach”. From his very first breath to his short-lived rise and crashing fall as a social media influencer, this all-encompassing work provides exclusive, never-before-shared details on the enigmatic mystery man, including eye-witness reports on the trading card printing press accident that shaped the course of his life.
NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER
Due to ongoing litigation by stagecoach Incorporated, the publication of Setting the Stage: The stagecoach Story has been indefinitely delayed in compliance with a court order, pending the resolution of the case.
i dont really remember the exact way but i was wanting to read some posts on people writing topics on the fan club cards and googled. one of the posts was of my boy @brendantheclayboy showing off his fan club porygon that he purchased.
i then made a post on another site and was told that was the old site and he gave me the link to this new version.
why ? coz i dont have any friends here in thailand in general nor any other friends IRL that i know that are intrested in pokemon (playing the games or collecting).
I first learned about efour through youtube and initially wondered why there was another Pokémon site when bulbapedia seemed to cover everything. However, as efour was mentioned more frequently, I became curious and decided to give it a visit. It was then that I realized it was unlike any other site, and I quickly grew fond of the unique vibes. Especially during covid, it became a comforting space where I could unwind and forget about everything else going on.
Today, efour is the first site I open up in the morning. Not news, not work email but efour!
I was looking for info on a specific rare card (more than once) and found myself reading through articles etc here. I lurked for a long time (years) and really just used this as a place to get information when I needed it, but over time I started reading more and more posts and went deeper down the rabbit hole and finally had to start commenting and posting myself to be a part of an awesome group of like-minded people!
I was surely googleing for some non-tcg, I don’t remember if it was 2020…?
It’s all fault of those threads: link link
I lurked for a while before getting too addicted to not say anything.
But for the most part, I don’t feel like participating in many conversations outside of the non-TCG sector
Cool to see so many members above mention my name or are here because of me, after seeing my comments on reddit or some of the articles I wrote.
FWIW, it happens pretty frequently someone comes across a 4+ year old reddit post of mine with old (now broken) proboards links and I give them the same thread link for the new forum.
As for how I came across this forum, I’ve actually told it quite a few times over the years, so I’m just gonna quote myself:
(TL;DR: I came across @justinator’s website and Efour collection thread. )
It’s kinda funny reading back in Justin’s collection thread and seeing what a noob I was back then.
Also:
Hahaha. 1800 Pikachu cards later. And these days I’m happy if a Pikachu is worth only 25 USD on release…
Greetz,
Quuador
SMP’s videos coupled with the gradual deterioration of Reddit. I think forum sites dedicated to a specific interest are less likely to be bought and paid for than content aggregators AND if they do have ads, they’re not disguised as posts and are likely relevant to the community’s interests.
My discovery of this amazing forum has encouraged me to branch out and look for other forums that replace subreddits I used to frequent (that have devolved into disgusting cesspools of the same pointless shit posts repeated over and over ad nauseam).
I knew about it and lurked before making an account (I think 2018)
My roots are at Pokegym and prior to that Pojo and Wotc Forums.
I did searched around on reddit a bit but I dislike it.
Trolling the r/pokemon buy sell trade discord somehow ended with me finding this place.
I got back into collecting around 2015/2016. Went years without meeting many others. Had used forums in the past but assumed all were dead until I did a little searching for deeper info. Got pointed here and this is where I settled. Albeit mainly in the Discord.
TCA Gaming to smpratte to E4.
Yep, same.
You all have @churlocker to thank for me being here.
Whether that is a good thing or not is up to you, take it up with him.
We were whining about the moderation on Pokegym.net so we went and made our own community for collectors instead of being sidelined by a bunch of lame players.
I’m the weird kid who got here with the help of topps. I was not much of a researcher in my early years of collecting so i didn’t google a lot of stuff. But when my topps collection was nearing the completion i got impatient since the last cards i needed just wouldn’t surface on any platforms for months and even years so i started to search for other places where to get info of obtaining them and ended up here on an old thread about topps cards. That ended up being no help but i did make a buy thread of my own for the cards but also simultaneously got really interested in of the other threads and stuff going on in here. Fast forward few years i have finished the topps collection through E4 and have a safety haven from the evil outside world
