I look at my collection enough to know with about 80% accuracy as to whether I have a particular reverse holo or not.
I have 14 collection binders and I keep about 100+ of my favorite cards in top loaders. I read a different binder every night before bed. During the day, I put a different set of 5 or 6 top loaded cards in a bag and bring them around with me to look at when I am waiting for the bus or when I’m bored.
I think the purpose of cards is that they should be admired. Seems like a huge waste if you throw your cards into a drawer never to look at them again.
This is an interesting question! I’ve enjoyed reading other’s responses, and seeing how people enjoy their collection in different ways.
I probably look closely at my collection around once per month. I tend to take the cards out, and admire their art up close, without the barrier of a sleeve. I know that each time I do this risks damaging the card, but for me getting to see the full effect of a holo, or even just seeing a common artwork a bit clearer is worth it (this is probably why graded cards have never been of much interest to me ).
My binders not enough, it wouldn’t take that much time but for some reason, while somewhat regularly, i still usually only check some very specific parts or pages of my collection instead of going through whole binders. Also i’ve noticed that if i’m still missing a card or cards in some collections i don’t have as big urge to check them compared to already completed ones, i try to fight against that and appreciate the parts i already have in incomplete collections too but still i more often find myself going through those already completed binders. But while my binders don’t get enough love i’m so happy i have my display which i can easily check every day, some days just shorter glances in middle of doing something else and some days carefully checking all the items in it, but basically no days without my eyes appreciating some parts of it.
For me, it’s definitely every couple days. But it’s also my decompression after work. Throw some headphones in, grab the binders and figure out what I want to do. Last night case in point, I didn’t realize that I basically have the SWSH Celebrations set in its entirety. I’ve had one of the Ultra-Pro charizard binders that my wife bought me about a month ago and started piecing that all together. It will be my first master set also!
@pokemonargentina im definitely redownloading instagram just so I can check this out! The wife might not be too happy about it tho. I have a spare room
@pokemonargentina alright man, that room and set up is SICK! That right there is what I strive for. I will say tho, the only thing I don’t own are slabs. I have some that I could definitely send in. It just scares me bad. If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all and that’s what holds me back from sending in.
I flip through at least 1 of my 6 binders once a week, sometimes more depending on my mood or how active I’ve been buying singles lately. I tend to flip through my more complete binders more often, looking at all the empty spaces in my project binders gives me completionist anxiety and that leads to me spending more money than I have faster than I need to
I was thinking about this today after writing this post and i think E4 has somewhat replaced my time where i used to admire my collection. I rather use my limited time reading threads and interacting with people here than going through my binders a lot of times, i do ofc sometimes enjoy admiring my collection and buying additions in it but i do it more sparsely than earlier and E4 definitely has its role in my time usage change
I like to look at one of my binders a few times a week. It always depends what I’m thinking of. Recently I thought the price of a PSA 10 shining legends Mewtube was getting up there, so I opened up my shining legends master set and admired it.
Other times when a card comes in the mail I will flip through my collection to find the right spot for the new card[s].
I very rarely look through my graded cards. Even if the card has a high value, I’d much rather look at my binders.
In some cases I will buy a binder copy of a PSA 10 card I own just so I can actually enjoy it.
Every other week, that’s why I’m making a “Pokedex” album of my favourite old school cards, doing one of the Kanto and Johto regions, each with their descriptive card insert inspired by lof102’s inserts:
I like to look at parts of my collection a couple of times during the week. That can be looking at the scans in the vault or slabs at home, or rearranging cards in the binder.
I look at parts of my collection daily. Things that are displayed, well…displayed.. My binders once a week. I enjoy them a lot. I do have some cards that are stored and I look at less often.
I’ve starting looking at my collection alot more recently, especially my binders. I haven’t opened some of them in 1 to 2 years. Binders definitely help you rekindle the collecting spark and help you find the joy in collecting again.
The goal is too downside some doubles, some slabs, and maybe a binder or two for the upcoming move/unexpected but welcomed surprise third kid lol. By doing that, I think I’ll actually end up appreciating my collection as a whole much more than if I didn’t.
There’s a heatwave sweeping through Europe right now, so I spent the afternoon flipping through my binders under a tree. Feels just like Tropical Islands weather!
