How Many Packs Do You Crack Of Each New Set?

I used to want to open a few packs of new sets on release, but it doesn’t interest me anymore. The only newer set I’ll keep opening is Evolving Skies, otherwise, I’m not opening.

In the 0 camp too; I stick to singles that I like as I see em.

There seems to be a huge amount of wastage for those opening modern for chase cards.

Not as many as I want because the supply chain is horrible.

Most modern sets: 0. I would rather spend on vintage, pull rates are terrible, sets are way too big, and the “hits” are kind of a mixed bag - Evolving Skies Eeveelutions? Looked great. Pikachu Vmax and Charizard Vmax? I’ll pass.

There have been a few sets I really enjoy opening, mainly Evolutions and Celebrations, Hidden Fates was ok too. Occasionally pick up a Pokeball or tin when they’re on sale for a good price, which hasn’t been very often lately.

0, unfortunately.

I’ve tried my best to enjoy modern. Closest I get is one or two chase cards per set and, even to a degenerate gambler like myself, it makes no sense to spend thousands on cases to maybe pull one copy of a card I find moderately attractive when I can order them up on TCGplayer or eBay like takeaway from mass box breakers at sub-$100 a piece.

I usually crack a booster box depending on the set. I’d just buy singles though, if I wasn’t moron

As a relatively new collector, my plan moving forward is to stick to one booster box per set just for the fun of it. Whatever else I need (which will likely be a lot given the size of modern sets) I’ll just fill in buying singles.

Ill typically open 2-6 boxes depending on how much I like the set. Even though I pretty much live and breath Pokemon I try not to watch any opening videos or view too many spoiler articles. I always look forward to opening the newest sets and enjoying ALL the cards. I feel like Pokemon has been hitting it out of the park with a lot of the commons and uncommons. Pulling that Komiya Croconaw out of Fusion Strike was just as memorable as any of the hits I got.

Nowadays 4 (or 5) packs to get artset of empty booster wrappers. It used to be 10 packs for a long time, then in s&s era i upped it in whole box for some time and then lowered it first back to 10 and then to just this 4 packs. For me too the amount of cards and ultra rares per set combined to horrible pull rates kills it, it has now been almost 5 years since i last time opened the ultra rare i really wanted. The latest experiences with chilling reign and the end of guaranteed sr from the box (my best pull was basically a full art blaziken) and opening 36 packs of celebrations, the set that was basically stacked with pulls, without opening anything i wanted was the nail in the coffin for me. That 4 packs is usually enough to get a holo for my holo and reverse holo from every set subcollection and perhaps a new Komiya or Sowsow card which i would anyway buy at some point.

Depends on 2 things for me really,

  1. Based on the set list what’s the likelihood I’m gonna enjoy opening it.
  2. How much of a gambling mood I’m in.

Brilliant Stars, Celebrations and Evolving Skies are the only SWSH sets I’ve bought and opened up, and even then it’s usually only 1 booster box of a couple of ETBs. Of those, Brilliant Stars has been my favourite. Otherwise I’ll just buy any singles that I like from the sets after a 6 months of prices settling down. Prior to SWSH, Hidden Fates and Cosmic Eclipse were the only other 2 modern sets I’ve ever actually wanted to buy to open. Otherwise most of my money just goes on Japanese (and some English) promos.

I opened around 70 packs of Celebrations, maybe 60 evolving skies, around the same for chilling reign and shining fates. Didnt really open fusion strike much at all. I have a brilliant stars etb ill open eventually, but thats about it. Celebrations was the most exciting set to open of all those. Shining fates was fun too.

Like 5 for fun. Then just buy the singles I like
