How Many Packs Do You Crack Of Each New Set?

I really dislike the swsh normal holo pattern so I have less than no desire to open packs as I don’t want any of them. I’d rather pay 4x as much and buy singles with shipping on ebay to avoid pulling normal holos. When they change the pattern in the next gen I’ll reconsider buying new :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. I used to buy a box for each set which got released but ever since it became difficult to find boxes I stopped bothering. I haven’t opened a single Sword & Shield pack.

As with others, usually zero. I actually get a little stressed opening up modern product since the the hit to bulk ratio is so terrible and I feel bad about tossing bulk so it just ends up being a burden. Not to mention the hit you get is almost always never the one you want.

The $5 it would cost to buy and open a new pack of Pokémon Cards is $5 that I can’t spend on Greninja Gold Stars…

7 if I go to a pre-release event.
1-3 from my LGS if I can’t make a pre-release.

I’ve never bought a box or ETB, not worth it for me.

Depends on if I like the set or the price I can get it at. Mostly stick to the English or Japanese special sets like celebrations, shining fates, tag team all stars.

I do usually have some tucked away in my closet and once in a while after a really long work week I’ll crack a box to chill out.

I always open one ETB with my husband to celebrate a new release. Afterwards, I’ll only open packs whenever I’m buying a box for a specific promo card, or during black Friday when tins are $10.

I feel value in opening something every once in a while with someone else. However, I also have the internal struggle with justifying a pack vs buying singles. I feel like I’ve found a good balance though.

Depends on the set for me. Celebrations was fun so I cracked a few ETBs. Opened my first Japanese box and it was Vmax Climax. That was an absolute blast so I bought another and opened it as well. It was great because I got cards I actually want. English modern is tough because you get a lot of bulk you don’t really want.

3 boxes of Vivid Voltage and a case of ETBs with no rainbow pikachu…

After that, nope I’d rather buy singles.

$200 plus chase cards from 2020-2022 or graded Wotc holos for the same amount? Not a brain buster for me. Opening packs was very fun once upon a time for hidden fates at least. I bought way to many random collection boxes usually with zero hits or something worthless like a random GX

Honestly, I usually only grab a triple pack or two if they show up at my Wal-Mart. The only recent set I went out my way for was Chilling Reign. Opened 2 boxes… I love Calyrex

I find the modern sets overwhelming so I’m pretty selective on which sets I try to collect and it’s usually the special sets. The recent ones that come to mind are ~100 Celebrations (so nostalgic but the excitement started fading after 50 packs) and will probably open ~70 Shining Fates before I go towards picking up singles.

For regular modern sets, I usually get my thrill when they show up at Costco (opened a lot of the 3-tin Pokeball bundles and Burning Shadow ETBs). The cost per pack made it more justifiable.

My primarily goal right now is to finish some of the Neo sets (and no way I am accomplishing that by opening packs).

I’m in the zero boat too but I would totally be the guy who completes sets by opening packs if I got paid to do it or had huge sums of money and already completed most of my graded card goals. Opening packs is fun, it’s just very costly relative to buying the singles.

I do occasionally splurge on special sets like celebrations or detective pikachu. And my primary source for pack opening is from gifts.
Q: What do you want for x?A: Anything Pokemon TCG you can see at the store, even decks as they usually include some alternative holo promo.

In a perfect world, I’d like to open at least a box of every new set (I only collect Japanese modern). However, i typically get caught up on other collection goals, and with prices going up over the last 6-8 months for new sets, I just haven’t rly wanted to spend the extra money on opening packs

Usually 2 boxes per set, after that the cards become to repetetive for me and I end up just waiting for the SR which kind of kills the excitment of opening a box as a whole.

depends how many metagross are in the set

If the pull rates or (and) promo are good then I get them packs to open. I open quite a few hidden fates. Celebrations I opened one ETB, union and chest. They were good. I got champion path for charziard promo and small set too open but that was fail, the pull rates not good.Dont like them so just the one ETB too open and brought nothing else not even singles,
but celebration and hidden fates brought singles too

And that is it. I don’t open any other main set way too big and seem like bad pull rates, when the football promo was in game I brought four loose booster packs to get them though.

I open little and buy singles

For English I buy around 12 packs. Narrows down the amount of bulk and usually there are some pulls even in that amount. I don’t buy English booster boxes because here they cost like 2 times the amount that they cost in the US which sucks.

For Japanese I always buy a box of a new set. Usually not more than one box unless it’s a bigger special set because you usually end up getting all or almost all of the regular set (C/U/R) from one box which I really appreciate and which is the reason I actually have C/U/R collections in binder from XY5 forward.

I don’t collect modern, so automatically on team zero for this one. But very interesting to read all the varying replies of people who do.

Not worth ripping when pull rates are non-existent.

As I’ve said, Pokemon should be sued for being the gateway to gambling for kids. They need the rates standardized and printed on the packs.
