Since in the last year we’ve seen the gold star boom how long do you think it will take for the Pokemon ex from Ruby and Saphire to ex power keepers to rise significantly in value?
Or, is their appeal limited because the 3D rendered art is a far cry from WotC holos?
The population for most of these cards in PSA 9 or 10 is usually around 10-30 copies except for EX Firered Leafgreen and TRR.
Not all of the sets are as in demand as others. TRR, RFLG, Deoxys… basically everything except the early ex sets seem to be pushing up right now from what I’ve seen. Lots of demand for early ex cards. I’ve seen a rise in people hunting down Primes too and early full arts.
Most sealed boxes are easily reaching the 1k mark. More desirable stuff can fetch 2k easily. So the “explosion” is already here. EX series has been significantly inflated by the gold stars, but the real boom won’t come until kids who grew up with it have money for real. They’ll want the cards and that’s when the prices for exs specifically will jump. I see that happening in maybe 2023-25ish. Without that nostalgia group gold stars and sealed product will continue to be the only things worth significant money.
Basically, if you want to collect the EX series, do it now.
Hnngg, I want a Team Rocket’s Sneasel ex for my Sneasel collection, but it’s impossible to find it at a decent price. Yes, I know it’s not that expensive. But A. I’m a penny pincher and B. An artist’s salary doesn’t leave me with much spending money considering I don’t get many commissions…
This reminds me when I got back into collecting late 2014… There’s this pretty small toystore in my hometown and they had 2 BOOSTER CASES OF BOTH LEGEND MAKER AND POWER KEEPERS! Back then I had absolutely no idea of the boxes actual value so I bought 1 booster box of each to open (They were selling both of the boxes for 3€/pack as well). Ended up getting both Vaporeon gold star and Regice goldstar from them. Then my interest in collect slowly faded away again until roughly 6 months ago I checked the prices of these boxes on Ebay and was shocked… Of course the store had sold them out by then so rest in peace me
There’s currently a huge discrepancy between the value of a sealed ex series box, and the expected value of the cards inside. Of course the sealed product is always going to be more, but it’s getting pretty crazy now. The single cards should follow suit within the next year I think. Maybe even the holos. They’re gorgeous, and so underrated.
Btw. if that toystore was located in western parts of Finland and they had online store as well then I’m culprit most of the ex series stuff were sold in a heartbeat.
That strange moment when I’m from southwest Finland and I have no idea what store you are talking about @nauticads@orionwaves If I knew I would definitely have picked up some as I really love the ex sets.
Sealed product prices have exploded already but I think the ex cards and holos are still on very reasonable prices, depends on the card though and the condition. I think if you want to get those it’s time to do so now before they sky rocket, that’s why I went after my Ex Emerald reverse holo + ex set now because later it will be more expensive to do
Hopefully not soon as I’ve just started to try and build these sets for myself. I have noticed that I am struggling to find a lot of the EX cards at a decent price, so it seems like the upward trend is well and truly coming along.
Not so much. Original cards border awkwardly on counterfeiting, so a lot of people avoid them. Professional looking alters of real cards are the big sellers.
I wouldn’t consider it counterfitting since it’s my own original artwork, and they wouldn’t be advertised as actual cards. Mine don’t really look like real cards either.
By that logic, almost any fan work that is in a similar style to real work would be counterfit.
Well, when you sell something that piggy backs off of the intellectual property Pokémon owns, it is a violation of trademark law. Here’s a great breakdown of a recent lawsuit that wasn’t selling anything and was sued for a huge sum.
Nintendo really doesn’t have time to go around and give every artist a cease and desist. I have a ton of Pokemon prints on my Redbubble and only one has been taken down. Whatever, my card artwork is pretty crappy anyway so no one would buy it. I’ll stick to commission basis digital art.
