I’ve got various English cards, almost all newer ones (at least after WOTC), that have some kind of corner that is ‘standing up’, I don’t know exactly how to describe it. It is only noticeable on the back corners.
When you shine light on that corner, you’ll see that it looks like the outsides of the corner are raised by a little bit, but you cannot really feel it, it is most definitely not a bend. I don’t have any picture right now, so I hope I’m clear enough, or you can redirect me to the more used term for this.
All these cards are new and pulled by myself, so it is some kind of factory ‘issue’/feature. I do also have some pre-owned cards with this same thing going on. I’ve either never or very rarely seen it at WOTC cards, only at newer ones.
What exactly is this, and how does it affect the grades, given that practically all cards I’ve seen from my Call of Legends packs for example have this issue?
If it’s what I’m thinking about based on your description… it’s very common newer cards. If there’s no whitening showing on the rear of the card it most likely won’t effect the grade. If your copy has corner deformation, however, it may keep it from getting a 10 as with most other factory originated defects.
Ah, cool! That’s exactly what it is, there’s no whitening, the cards looks perfect, except for that single thing. Rarely the newer cards also have ‘chipped’ corners, where you some kind of white triangle/rectangle/whatever it is, I assume those do hurt the grade.
Just encountered this again on base set cards that I pulled myself, hoping it doesn’t matter as otherwise most of them look really minty!
I do remember having submitted 8 holos from some ex series and half of them received 10’s and other other half 9’s, but that may entirely have been down to other factors.
