New to the site, and first time posting. I was wondering if anyone can help explain where the bottom examples of cards (i.e. showing two Pokemon in a versus/battle stance) fits in the overall release of the Topsun sets??
In addition, I tried looking up the PSA POP of the Charizard holo below and says (POP 18 for PSA 10):
However, does that POP 18 also include these types of Charizard holos with the exact same description??:
Check out this thread also there are no 1995 Topsun releases they are all 1997 and onwards, and yes they would all account towards the same in the POP report unfortunately
I believe I remember reading a thread that what we consider “normal” topsun was produced in 1995 and distributed in 1997. Does anyone know if these topsun vs were produced and distributed in 1997?
Aside from the first release, I believe every other release has the logo ‘Top(トップ)’ instead of ‘Topsun(トップサン)’. So ‘Top VS Set’ would be a more appropriate name.
Just wanted to point that out because its been miscalled pretty often.
1995 copyright on bottom of cards
Very quick printing change / reprint
Gary claiming of the literally hundreds+ of Japanese binders he got from kids in Japan topsun ALWAYS came before base (96), with green actually before blue
*caveat to the last point is that it’s possible that they collect right → left, which may explain a lot of this.I’m not sure if this holds up for future / more clear set releases. @garyis2000 care to enlighten us?
I am 100% certain. Topsun obtained the license from Shogakukan in 1997, who are responsible for the CoroCoro comics. Ishihara started Creatures in November 1995 and met with a Director from CoroCoro comics in December 1995 to advertise the upcoming Pokemon Red/Green. The first licensed Pokemon product was given to Bandai. It is a toy called Pokemon Club it was released in May 1996. Topsun is not featured in any CoroCoro comics publications in 1995 and even 1996. Gary also has previously revised that notion in another thread.
This 1997 vs set in particular has both topsun and top on the back side of the cards. Per pokeboon on his topsun blog, the company changed names part way through production of this set from topsun to top. He claims that the topsun logo was used through 1997 and then changed to top in 1998.
I was in school in the 1990s. All the foreign japanese kids had the blue back topsun cards in the year 1995.
I dont care when the contract agreement was signed. Between topsun or pokemon.
I seen in the year 1994-1995 4th grade. Topsun blue backs. As one of the first japanese pokemin cards. The kids always flaunted around their graded charizards.
Then, a couple years later, these kids had topsun green backs in year 1997, and the cards were still dated 1995.
Bandai carddass are the offbrand pokemons. They are like the 4th deck to release.
Topsun blue backs were in the 1994-1995 year.
The topsun green backs came out in 1997, but still dated 1995.
Pocket monsters nintendo had an english version and japanese version in 1994-1995 year too.
The original pocket english and japanese monsters will just state year 1995. They will have the first edition stamp on them too.
The oldest pocket monster ive found was 1996. I cant find any 1995 pocket monsters.
I was in school the kids had pokemon as a new fad after we played pog for a couple months. When did pog release? 1994 1995, and so did pokemon topsun and pocket monster.
