Well, I sold my Blastoise psa 9 1st Ed in 24hrs so I guess so?
I had a guy ask if I would take less for a card yday but it was a lowball offer so I just replied with “no, sorry price is fair and cmv” which is true.
This could be a good topic for an upcoming monthly market recap patreon video. Are you seeing any trends in seller offers, acceptance rates, etc. - either anecdotally for yourself and/or what you are hearing from other sellers?
Most people are at home these days, so they have the time for sniping auctions and going over more listings. More exposure probably results in better optimization, not necessarily higher demand. But I also recieved some above-market offers for cards I have not even listed. Seems like people view certain cards as safe havens for their money and more actively look for them.
i’m new to collecting, well sort of. i pulled most all the original set and kept it in a binder for 20 years. I just started again recently, but currently work in traditional financial markets. there’s no underlying sentimentality to stocks and bonds like pokemon or other collectibles. you’re right on with your points. i assume collectors mostly spend from surplus, which means in recessions or financial crisis, they’re not forced to sell, and even if they had to start selling sentimental items typically go last. this means there is usually more time to wait out a rebound than other valuables you may own. plus i think people like to gamble in traditional markets more than they will admit.
there’s too much of this stuff out there for there to not be deals, but i wouldn’t expect to see grail items move much, because the person that paid thousands upon thousands for it, likely wont be in a financial hardship to sell. if the worst happens and they are forced to sell, i doubt they’re going to fire sell everything without there being an extreme situation. unfortunately i dont think pokemon prices are going to bottom out with out a complete catastrophe situation for those of us on the come up.
came back to edit just to say i think any stimulus is also likely going to give a lot of people a chance to buy one or two expensive things. hopefully people make a good choice and save it or spend on essentials until things level out, but poke addiction is real so ball out i guess lol.
I lost 6 auctions in a row despite putting in at least 1.5x what the last ones sold for just one month ago, and actually just now lost one despite putting in 2x, so yeah I can see it.
It’s interesting to see the number of auctions and total sales amount increase monthly since the start of the year, last month was the highest recorded month of sales value in 8 months (disclaimer: the site does not pick up every PSA card auction so take the graph as an estimated trend not 100% accurate data).
I will be more interested to see the numbers for April which will display on the graph May 1st, with the lockdowns and job losses in full effect now for most countries due to COVID-19 this might give some speculative insight on how the market is being affected, if at all.
I think this plays a role for sure. Im not working this week and have more time to scout ebay. Including free time to actually watch auctions i normally would miss if i was at work.
Yeah I noticed it too. I’m not a big seller on ebay but I did have 5 listings for some PSA cards that sat there on ebay for months then within a two week period all of them sold to different people.
I wonder how many others are doing this. While I know outside events bring people to the tcg (PoGo, lets Go, sun & moon, coronavirus) I wonder how much of this current boost is temporary. I don’t doubt pokemon will continue to go up. I just wonder how much of the prices right now will remain in the short. Will people sell quickly once things resume the normal or not return to normal (permanent job losses).
