I’ve always wondered this as well. I would assume most burglars tend to focus more on finding gold/jewelry and portable electronics (laptops, phones, etc) but I guess you never know how educated they may be in the world of collecting.
Yes very true! I guess a bank vault is the only truelly safe option, but that’s about as convenient as stumbling upon a ground hornet nest! I guess the other alternative is you could super glue the cards to your skin that way they’re always with you and attached to you haha
Odds are very high your typical smash and grab burglar has no idea what a graded pokemon card is worth. That said:
I have no idea how much hotwheels cars are worth, but if i see them in a nice case or display, I know they are likely worth something.I have no idea how much star wars action figures are worth, but if i see them in a nice case or display, I know they are likely worth something.I have no idea how much comic books are worth, but if I see them in a nice case or display, I know they are likely worth something.
I have no idea how much sports memorabilia is worth, but if I see it in a nice case or display, I know it is likely worth something.
This is especially true for graded items. Regardless of hobby, if something is of value to someone else, it likely has value to me if I have an intention to take it.
@silversnorlax204 you’d be lost robbing my grandparent’s house. All kinds of beautiful displays full of beanie babies, relatively cheap but nice looking die cast cars, various franklin mint goodies and other near worthless knick knacks haha. Probably more money in a few various change jars kicking around.
I have an uncle who is the same way actually lol. lots of mini ceramic houses with Christmas themes to them. Zero clue what they would sell for today, but I’m sure they are in fact worth something. (I know he put thousands into it).
Beanie babies are literally a stockpiled “investment” at my girlfriend’s mother’s house.
