We just finished the 1st half of the year, and now have arrived at the 2nd half. What are some achievements you’ve made in the trading card realm this year? And what are you trying to wrap up before it’s too late?
Personally, I’ve been working on my binder trying to source the mintiest copies possible, and currently focusing on alt arts from the SWSH era.
Upgrading binder copies is such a good collection goal!!
Perhaps I will do this next year with some of my sets!
Just finished my Typhlosion PSA 10 Japanese master set. Also finally acquired both Holo and reverse Russian and Polish copies.
Trying to find a 10 worthy English HGSS tin promo but seems pretty unlikely. Other than that just picking up random merch and non TCG items as I see them.
I was able to upgrade several harder to find decks to sealed versions and I even scored an extra team aqua sealed deck to try trading for the variant Im looking for. Beyond that, its been an overall slow year for me so far when collecting. Ive also completed several crafts this year that werent previously expected and have found a few more mysterious things that may be seen soonish.
Started the year with zero cards and now have a whole lot. Have ticked off most of my goal cards for the year and have passed the 10% mark on my first set collection. Also went from starting with 1 binder to now having 3 as well as collecting a bunch of sealed stuff while also opening a bunch with my little one.
Recently got scammed for the first time which probably came at a good time as it’s school holidays for my daughter so happy for collecting to take a back seat for a couple months as I focus on her and my wife.
Overall my life has been improved from entering the hobby and I look forward to the second half of 2024.
I’ve had an odd 2024. I started upgrading my cards and switching to PSA. I wasn’t that bothered about value or the difference between 9/10, just completion. But having a recpgnised set list for English drew me in upgrading and swapping from cgc to PSA on some.
I started January 1st with 68.54% of that list. I’m on 89.39% with another 2%ish due today and another 5%ish due when I next ship cards over.
So not only nearly done the TCG part but also nearly done on topps and the bonus collector cards. Then I’ll try convince PSA to add to the set list as I have a few I think should be on it
Started the year with a complete raw art collection for eevee, got everything graded, sold off more other cards to complete holo binder. As of last week, got back to “whole” on new artwork. Waiting until shrouded fable and boo-ster come out to grade some of the arts I’d missed the first go around
Finished off my graded Neo Shining set, eevee Yu Ngaba set, legends pieces set, and added a few standalone pieces I’ve always wanted. Hoping to grab one other major mini-set and pick up another 2 major standalone cards by year end.
Been working on my original 151 pokedex binder which has been great. Im also in the process of purchasing my first and only slab for the year which will basically be the crown jewel of my collection.
Overall Im quite happy with how things have been going in 2024
I’m also working on my pokedex binder (251). Are you using cards from all eras or narrowing it down to more specific sets?
Nice, id love to expand it through the generations in the future! Personally, im doing the first appearance of each pokemon with Japanese vintage. I thought abt doing it with wotc, but the Japanese sets are more consistent (english base set has too many variations + mew is a fossil card in JP vs it being a promo in english).
I got the idea to do it that way from an smpratte video lol plus i know many other members that have done similar. Heres some pics
Mostly picking up bits and bobs of the ralts card collection (whittling away the russian, korean, and italian cards 
). Biggest thing proper, is that I’m in the process of actually putting work into a website for my collection. I’ve been wanting to make one for years! (- And this way I’ll have a solid idea of what I have for the non- tcg stuff and don’t accidently buy a double XD)
Finished my game collecting goal earlier this year (every game from Gens I to IV (and just missing Black 2 for having every game up until Gen V)).
Also made some progress on my VS Series binder, hopefully will at least narrow it down to under 10 cards missing by the end of this year when I am back in Japan.

As everyone is aware because i dont shut up about it i finished my prerelease promo set (regular variant) and started moving onto the staff variants and psa graded cards. Im super proud, and probably annoying af, but ive never felt cooler in my life.
Someone give this man the “early bird gets the worm” badge already
