Typical short sightedness by someone who has no idea what it’s like to live in the modern world. Maybe people would buy from Australian retailers if they weren’t so insanely expensive and overpriced.

That is crazy. I hope ebay is only flexing so this new regulation doesn’t pass. It would be insane if AU was banned from ebay.

Just another money grab tax for our greedy government also thanks for cutting Hex and Vet fee help for Tertiary education students!

Also thanks for destroying the environment with your coal mines…

Also thanks for not investing in renewable energy

Also thanks for providing us with the state of the art NBN which now costs more money to build and is worse and less reliable!

So americans know what NBN is! (NBN - National Broad Band Network initiated by Labour government to feed direct state of the art fibre internet to ALL homes. COMPROMISED by the new liberal government by re configuring the network to be built to the NODE instead of directly to your home to save money. Priminister Malcom Turnbull stated that the NBN will be finished by 2016. ITS FUCKN 2017 and my are has now construction planned for the forseeable 3 years. Now the NBN is exceeding the original Labour quota.

Don’t you just love the baby boomer generation, hello? Remember us we are the future generations we have to live in this world you morons? I don’t want to pay $5000 for a couch at Harvey Norman when I can buy the same thing for $200 elsewhere because I am not an idiot and will research for the best deal. Usually if a business is struggling you look to innovate or go bust you don’t fix the environment so that you can squeeze out that last bit of profit before you get bought out by an online company based in Hong Kong (Dick Smith).

These are the brands that lobbied for this as per the article:

Harvey Norman

(Premier Investments)

  • The Just Group
  • Smiggle
  • Portmans
  • Just Jeans
  • Peter Alexander
  • Jay Jays
  • Jacquie E
  • Dotti

We were sold out for these brands lol, if anyone from E4 continues to buy from these places I will personally crease every single one of your cards

Being an outsider I can see both sides of this and have to side with the sentiment of our members here. I did read further than this article too.

Basically, I believe in “buying local”. It’s kinda like I’d rather pay Gav 6000.00usd for his awesome new treasure than pay a complete stranger 5800.00usd. I’d rather pay my local store 60.00 for a pair of Nikes than pay 55.00 to an eBay seller. Help a friend/help a neighbor is a motto to live by.
In this AU case though they seem to want to take away that freedom of choice. Force you into it. As a child of the 60s, and a free thinker that leans conservative, that doesn’t fly.
Hope you guys get it worked out.

I carry this philosophy as well. I am always willing to buy local instead of over the internet if the extra price I am paying isn’t ridiculous.
For instance I can buy booster packs from eBay for 4.50 AUD on release, but I would much rather spend 5 dollars at my local card shop because it supports the store and encourages a better breeding ground for more collectors and players.

One of the worst examples is electronics, and more specifically computer parts. Parts you can get in USA for 200 AUD will most likely end up costing you 380 or 400 AUD here.

Exactly.

Not to mention how shit the stuff is from value perspective at the aus retailers.

You end up paying alot more and get alot less :sob:

Take computers and stuff for example. Those prebuilt pcs at harvey norman for 2,000 have low end components and would cost about 500-700 at best. But it seems in america at big retailers, they do have prebuilt stuff that is of better value.

edit: im a bit late, just read your computer parts thing haha.
