My biggest regret was not ponying up to have more stuff graded and REgraded since making this. I lost so much in value at prices I could have sold at just by holding while everything rose to astronomical levels and finally dipped down to slightly above what I paid. No HUGE losses where I bought at the peak, but no HUGE wins either.
However, some stuff I sold way too low included about 6 different psa 10 zards of various sets where i ended up losing about $40,000-50,000 in value in under a yr or two from when 2020 started to 2022 finished

My worst sealed product “investments” are actually non pokemon. I have about 2 cases of Release Special Booster 1.0 Digimon booster boxes and about 2 or 3 cases worth of Dragon Ball Super DoTZL and WR booster boxes.
Paid around $125 for the Digimon boxes. The downward trending popularity of the competitive scene and with how they’ve been reprinting cards has me thinking this will be dead to negative money for years.
Paid around $100 for the DoTZL ($80 now) boxes and $80 ($50 now) for the WR boxes. My belief was that the God Rares were going to be special and be in only a handful of sets. I was wrong and Bandai has put a God Rare in every set since. In addition, DBS is being “rebooted” as a new card game “Fusion World” in the coming months. Meaning that I don’t think the floor is in yet for these sets and idk how the prices will fair once the competitive scene no longer exists.

Purchased a Play Promo for 3.9k.
Sold it for 2.7k a year later to buy something else.
Then the guy who bought it for 2.7k later sold it for 2.2k.
That card is cursed.

In April 2021 there was a gold Victory Cup with the shield on Yahoo auctions. I already had shielded silver and bronze so I really wanted it. I made a max bid of about 1.75 mil yen (yen was higher at the time so I think after fees it would’ve been about $17k) and narrowly lost the auction. Iirc it went for like 1.8 mil.
I immediately regretted not bidding higher to secure it because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find another shielded copy. I knew who won the auction and contacted him and he said he was looking for about $26k. I didn’t even bother negotiating I instantly agreed to buy it (keep in mind this is the very same month after I had told myself my max was $17k 
). I doubt his max had been over 2 mil yen but it’s OK he’s a nice guy I’m grateful he agreed to sell to me. I did have to sell some cards I loved to afford it like my Art Academy Fujishima Pikachu.
I actually don’t regret this at all, I’m very happy with my card even if I paid a premium, because I was right I haven’t seen any more mint shielded copies since. But I definitely cost myself a lot of money by not bidding higher on Yahoo

I’m glad you ended up getting the card in the end!! I don’t think I could live with myself if I let go of the Fujishima Pikachu, though… that’s definitely one of life goal cards

Worst purchase:
One of the last PSA10 1st Ed Holos from Gym Challenge i needed was Blaine’s Arcanine. Bought it for around U$S2,500 (2021). Card is worth around U$S1500 on average now.
Believe it or not i almost paid U$S6500 for a Dark Magneton 1st Ed PSA10 (rockets); thankfully, the deal fell through and my fomo showed off on that card for some reason, holding strong on my 9 at the moment. I had been offered the same card for U$S3000 a couple weeks ago. And im sure that card might be going for less.

All the cards that were really low pop in 2020 are pretty dangerous for that reason. You probably lucked out bigtime there.
I’ve made plenty of mistakes, overpaying, trusting people I shouldn’t, trading with strangers etc etc. I guess they’re all different lessons but it really does suck. It was easier when the price tags were not so crazy, no reason for bad intentioned people to be here

I truly agree with you, unfortunately im certainly sure those times are long gone.
In my personal opinion the spectre of ‘‘true’’ collectors is pretty small nowadays.

Even the people with some of the heaviest bags are “new money” types. Sure I bet a lot love Pokemon but time will tell us how much they love it when there’s no money in it

Totally agree with you, I fomo’ed a bit and scopped them up during covid at their peak. It is a little sickening seeing how cheap they are now in comparison. But its okay, I probably wont be parting with those cards.
However when it comes to my biggest loss…I think my mistake was getting the Play Promo Sinnoh Starters. I don’t know what I was thinking…I don’t even like the Sinnoh starters ha

Probably more important than the money loss story is the lesson story imo. Cause damn there’s a few lessons I wish I learned from someone else rather than myself
