I enjoy polls and surveys. Considering the discourse around which grading company is best, which is worse, and which ones fall in between, I’m stealing @Littu’s Pokemon Fight poll idea and appropriating it for a little fun.
Each post will eliminate one company, so select which company you personally deem to be the worst, or rather, which you are least likely to use or want. You can justify your decision by whatever criteria you want. By the end, we’ll be left with one. I’ll be closing votes and making the follow-up ~48 hours from each post. I’m predicting PSA will still be on top, but who knows. I’ve tried to include all relevant companies that I’m aware of.
KSA is one of Canada’s two main grading companies (right). The other one is MNT (left), a BGS knock off.
They don’t sleeve the card and ““secure”” it in the plastic between a piece of memory foam. It’s as ghetto as it sounds. Also they love to give 8.5s.
If you are looking to devalue your card (to keep it safe from those scary crypto bros and Chinese institutional investors) and damage it in the process (PSA 1 regrade, anyone?), then KSA has got you covered!
Clearly, such a superior grading company deserved to stand among such titans.
I thought I was in the minority for not liking ACE slabs ever since they first appeared during the COVID boom. Such a shame card shows and card shops are filled with them in the UK.
I’m not sure if it’s spoilers to comment on the current state of the poll but if I’m allowed, I feel a little bad to see ACE resigned to be first to get the boot. They at least have a couple of unique selling points such as being UK based and having those unique labels (something that is clearly very popular based on how big the ‘custom frame to put your slab in’ market is). Which is more than can be said for another on the list which has zero reason to be chosen over the big 3.
I’m sad to see ACE go this early I really like their slabs with the clear plastic and obviously the labels. I’d say they look the opposite of cheap to me (they definitely feel expensive). But I will say they are fairly lenient with the grades.
